We’ve just got talking about this in the office so thought we’d throw it out to everyone else! For me it’s some More Mile bib tights bought in around 2009, and news editor Simon still uses these winter gloves bought from Condor Cycles some time in the 90’s.
Feel free to share (pics preferable), we’ll throw it out on our Facebook and Twitter too and there will be a prize for the oldest!

Still us the old Specialized
Still us the old Specialized Hardrock as a pub and fun bike. Hesitate to call 1989 old actually. 30 years is not old unless you are a nipper. Plenty of other older kit in use but not frequently (on a weekly basis maybe) .

Actually until recently my
Actually until recently my dad’s old Kona was also still in use, but I sold it to a covetous friend who collected retro MTB gear. Looking forward to seeing his restoration job.

My old Kona top, from back
My old Kona top, from back when Kona was still cool and did skinny steel tubes with Hawaiian jungle graphics (1998 perhaps?). I got a matching jacket and short sleeve jersey set, although the jacket eventually died an honourable death after one filthy, muddy night ride too many.
The jersey is still trucking although starting to get just a leetle too tight. Only comes out for special occasions such as riding up a 10,000ft Hawaiian volcano or racing a local CX circuit with a ‘death spiral’ feature which matches the jersey.

Flite saddle and USE Ti
Flite saddle and USE Ti seatpost combination from 1992 still going strong. Still riding my 1995 Kona Explosif more than any other bike – only the frame is original, mind.

Till May I had a Z jersey
Till May I had a Z jersey from the late 80’s that I bought 2nd hand off Ebay. Last time I wore it was when I came off the bike and suffered road rash and muscle injuries but what hurt the most was losing the jersey

They were made by Tailwind – very nice and aero – they claimed they were an inprovement on riding without. Still had them in 2002 but ditched them as a zip had failed and I was moving house. Promised I would find some good replacements but never found anything similar. The pannier rack is still in use on my training/touring bike and dates back to 1985 along with the panniers.
Looking at the other kit in the picture, I still have the Eddie Merckx Adidas shoes – now on light duties for use with clips and straps. I still have the Look pedals but they were relatively recent – bought in 1988. The Ever Ready – prince of darkness lights – don’t get out much but live in a “may be useful” store. At the time I soldered in rechargeable batteries so at least they worked most of the time. The frame is a Bob Weston – awaiting its third coat of paint if I get round to it and I still have the saddle – a leather covered “Hurricane” again from 1985 and it is now fitted to my tandem.
The Shimano 600 chainset from 1986 is still being used but I have had to replace the chainrings. In other old kit news my pub bike has a Cliff Peters 531 frame in bright orange – must be late 60s early 70s and still fun to ride as despite appearances it is quite light so more lively than expected.
Before anyone suggests I need to spend money on some new kit, I do have some shiny new bikes and clothing too:-)

My wife and I both regularly
My wife and I both regularly ride our 1989 Moultons. We also still wear our Tudor Sport tights that just do not wear out and look like new after a wash. Mine date from the mid 80s. We also regularly wear our fluo yellow Gortex jackets from the same era although the yellow is somewhat faded now.

My bike frame, forks and most
My bike frame, forks and most of the headset are from 1993. I had other bikes before that, but I don’t think I had any kit that I still use.

A mid 80s polyester version
A mid 80s polyester version of a knitted jersey made for belgian cycling club Het Slijpend Wiel. No affiliation, bought it from a dodgy secondhand place in the arches at Camden market back in the 90s. It’s a shocker in the summer but gets hauled out occasionally when the temps drop, which is most of the year up here to be fair, so I really should wear it more to represent the Slijpers.
If you want an example photo may as well go back to the source. Check out the Peter Griffin lookey-likey man with glasses in the photos here:

My jersey was a mainly pink Campagnolo that I can’t remember what happened to.
I first went to France in 1990 but was supposed to be in Gran Canaria for two weeks but the lass I was with had a meltdown so it got binned off, best thing that happened that year tbh as I met loads of lovely people and got to see the laps on the Champs ( I went to tour not to chase the race), it was 104F in Paris that day and the whole couple of weeks was ridiculously hot.
Still got an early 90s Muddy fox* pannier rack affixed to my commute bike that lugs everything from kids bikes and lawnmowers bungee strapped to it, oldest jersey is a well beaten up DeMArchi from about 2003ish, holes in the shoulder from an off, the armpits are a bit er salty even after deep cleaning but it fits like a glove still and is super soft so it gets worn often during the summer
Oldest bike is older than me by a decade and gets half a dozen soft pedal outings a year.
I’ve a leather wallet from 1987 that I got as a xmas pressie that i used to take with me when I first started cycling further, hardly any wear to it but then as a Yorkshireman that’s hardly surprising really

*back when they made decent kit
