Strava & weather

Hey all. I’m pretty new here so first a little intro… I’m from northeast USA. Years ago I used to commute via bike almost regardless of the weather (ok, I skipped riding when roads were too icy/snowy) and loved MTB’ing. Fast-forward 9 years, 1 house, marriage, 2 kids and barely any riding :/ In July I picked up a Specialized Allez Sprint Comp and haven’t looked back (picture in the pinned photos thread). I recently added a used trainer for those days when I can’t get outside. Early morning rides make getting up a lot easier.

So what’s the point of all this?
I love Strava, but I can’t stand that it doesn’t have weather conditions as part of an activity. So I built a service to automatically add them and thought others might find it useful.

    What’s my angle?
I’m hoping to get enough users that random donations offset the cost of running the service. That’s it. Apologies for the shameless plug.

    The service is here: https://klimat.app
It can also be found in the Strava app marketplace, https://www.strava.com/apps/visualizer

I’d love any feedback you all have.

    Best,
    Scott

I’m an early adopter and am impressed so far… seamless and quick.

Is there any scope to customise the data- for example, to have the windspeed and direction first in the description?

I would also be happy to have a ‘weather by Klimat’ tag on the feed, if that helps spread the word.

Yes you can go into settings on the Klimaat page and change it to whatever you like. I’ve just condensed mine and taken off humidity, but there are various things you can add too.

Cool! Email me (scott@klimat.app) from the email you registered with Strava and I’ll upgrade your account. If you’re not sure which email that is send me your full first and last name.

    Hey everyone.

    Hey everyone.

First, the bad news: due to a massive influx of new users*, only a tiny amount of donations* and no donations from anyone that was a part of that massive influx I’ve turned on subscriptions for Klimat. To be completely transparent, this was something that I had planned on doing, but I was hoping to wait a lot longer.

Now the good news, I’m going to give anyone on this forum that signs up before November 9 a free perpetual license. All you need to do is reply to this thread (a simple ‘I signed up’ is enough), then send me an email with your username on this forum and I’ll update your account. My email is scott@klimat.app.

Edit: please note that anyone who signed up before I posted this message has a perpetual license.
You will still see the ‘Upgrade’ button in settings. Please just ignore it. Removing it is on my ‘todo’ list, but I want to finish up a cool new feature first đŸ™‚ (and, hopefully, get over this horrid cold)

    Best,

    Scott

*New users are a great problem to have.

*I wondered how donations would go. There have been some very generous people, but sadly, nowhere near enough to make the service break even.

On this I wish they would break down segments into times of the day. I want to compare my route to someone who has done it at the same time of day not someone that that done it in the dead of night

me too, though I’m too slow for it to matter right now. there are some sites out there that analyze your segments in various ways. you might want to google around or check the strava app marketplace, strava.com/apps

    Great idea- signed up.

Now how about an app or website that can look at local segments (or even saved routes) and determine which could be go-go or no-go based on wind direction…

https://mywindsock.com/ is probably what you want. I kicked the tires on it before I built Klimat.

Thanks for the tip, will give that a go. I’ve got this one ride from a while back containing virtually all my local PBs, would love to find out if they were wind-assisted.

I’ve just set up a monthly donation đŸ™‚

    Wow, thank you!
