The urge has been too great and I have just bought another motorbike after 8 years away from it.
Gone for an unfaired 400cc option, so no daft carrying on and track days like I used to do my zx6r as I am a parent now. Just hopefully going to be able to cruise and enjoy a ride out.
Not going to cycle any less though as I no desire to get fat!

I’ve gone through various periods of “I don’t need a bike” over the past 38 years or so, but it has always pulled me back. I started at 16 when I was working shifts and there was no bus service, so…. Yamaha RD 50, Yamaha RD250LC, Kawasaki GPZ 500, Kawasaki GPZ900, ZZR1100c2, ZZR1100d1, ZZR600, ZZR1100d2, Suzuki Bandit 1200, Triumph Tiger 955, Triumph Rocket 2300, Kawasaki Z1000, BMW GS1200, BMW K1300S, BMW GS 1200 Adventure, BMW K1600GTLE, Triumph Rocket 2300 Roadster and just two weeks ago a Kawasaki Versys 1000 GT……. I think I may be a biker. I was also lucky enough to ride bikes for a living for a while so there’s another 5 or 6 different models etc in there somewhere…..

I have a ZX12R. 2000 model. I rarely ride. When without a car I rode it to work during winters 3 years ago. Hated it. Drop bars, aggressive stance, steer with bum shift. Best ridden with a warm body. Anyway.. After about 2 weeks I couldn’t stand up, back was very sore from lack of posture. Bought a $200 second hand Avanti Blade. Sat on 30kmph instead of 60kmph. 15 km trek.
I hope to sell someday.
Gorgeous condition, runs quiet on Penrite. Runs slightly lean up top due to Yoshi pipe but doesn’t go there because a blap on throttle in first gives her 60 in about a second and first will hold more than twice that.
I love her yet push bikes are more fun.Edit..I lied.. Bought the Avanti but I also bought the cheapest car with a good body I that I could obtain that winter being in much pain from a sports bike cold morning upright commuting. Soon back repaired and on dry days I rode.
So tempted to Bafang the hub gear bike now.. Mate at work rides a SRam derailer and the single chain wheel nicely fits an electric machine bottom bracket.
Although my distance doesn’t need it, if I was needing to ride further again I probably would. I think they’re gorgeous little motor cycles; MoPed.Welsh boy

I used to ride a Gsx400f in my youth but a trip through a hedge ending up about 3 inches short of wrapping myself around a telegraph pole was the point at which I decided that it had to go. Big hole in my helmet but not a mark on my hands which didn’t have gloves on them at the time even though the sleeve of by leathers were worn away to the cuff. A very lucky escape.

Started off on a Honda CB100n
Started off on a Honda CB100n, followed by a Kawasaki Z400j. Flirted with a Suzuki X7 Barry Sheene replica before seeing sense and getting a Yamaha FZ600 then graduating to an FZ750 – lovely motor! The arrival of children heralded the departure of the Yam and arrival of a Citroen GSA Pallas spaceship followed by a succession of Saabs. Don’t get one of the GM ones, you might as well get a Vauxhall! NEED another bike now!

Well I finally found a bike
Well I finally found a bike and bought it this time.
97 VFR750 in mint condition. What a bike! As fast or slow as you want with utter smoothness. It’s fast as hell but it’s not the sort of bike that encourages you to be a twat, unlike my zx6r which was like an aggressive smaller gentleman trying to start fights with bigger men.
Skills are a bit rusty but it’ll come back soon enough. Wearing leathers is a bit of a pain in the arse but no more silly than dressing up in lycra.
Better not scare any horses.

Suzuki TS125ERN, Vespa PX125, Lambretta TV175 (225), Suzuki RGV250, Kawasaki KMX200, Yamaha DT175MX, Yamaha TDR250, Yamaha RD500LC, Aprilia RS250, Suzuki GSXR750, Honda NC30, and a Honda CBR600RR.
I think thats the lot. Best workhorse was the TDR250, worst bike was the KMX200 (kept snapping the powervalves), biggest disappointment was the RD500LC, best sound was the Lambretta, best bike that give me the most fun was the Aprilia RS250.
Sold the last motorbike to buy a bike. If the weather was nice I would cycle rather than get the motorbike out, and if the weather was bad, I’d use the car, so there was no point having a motorcycle. Sold it to a local dealer and then walked to the local bike shop and bought a Propel 🙂

I was talking with a mate who also has an SV650 and we agreed that for the money, it’s a lot of bike. Sure, the front end is a bit cheap and I have thought about fitting a GSXR front end, which is a known upgrade.
I’ve got a K4 GSXR front end on mine and a Hagon rear shock, there’s not much my SV can’t do. Ok on a track day it loses out on top end speed, but there’s nothing that can really beat it on the bends
Aha, that’s what I was thinking. I’ve heard you can’t use the speedo and rev counter tho as they won’t fit any more. But the GSXR front end would certainly make a difference at the track. I’ve not done a track day on my SV tho I did several on my old Ducati.
I do still hanker after a GSXR to be honest and every now and then I look at them wistfully on evilbay. I’ve also been thinking about selling the X5 and getting an X7 instead.

OP descending completely comitted on a bicycle is as much fun as I’ve had riding and racing motorbikes for many years and I haven’t really missed engines at all after making the switch 10 years ago.
Having said that I will be buying a V4 Panigale and lapping Brands GP as soon as my kid finishes school and is safely at uni.

Had loads over the years, got a 929 Blade which I’ve turned into a Scrambler, doing similar with a BMW R1150R now. Don’t ride either much though, just enjoy playing about with them more mow.maviczap

I was talking with a mate who also has an SV650 and we agreed that for the money, it’s a lot of bike. Sure, the front end is a bit cheap and I have thought about fitting a GSXR front end, which is a known upgrade. Compared with the Ducati 750SS I had before, the SV, is cheaper on parts and servicing costs, cheaper for insurance, uses less fuel, and is just as quick.
Before I bought the SV I was very keen on getting a GSXR1000, but it was the cost of insurance that put me off. Sure, there are better bikes than the SV on the market, but for the money?

I used to green lan on an old
I used to green lane on an old Honda MTX 125 and then the MTX200 which were brilliant trail bikes. Small light and fun.
I then upgraded to a Honda XR400 which was a fantastic bike off road. I still miss that bike to this day.
Unfortunately virtually all of the green lanes have been shut down now in the county I live in.
