From race ready kit to ride essentials, this week’s round up of cool things currently in for review includes some white daps from Fizik, Ribble’s Ultra-Race bike sitting between pure aero and ultra-lightweight, an electric mini pump from Trek, Velocio’s merino jersey promising all-day comfort and Specialized’s “fastest, most durable road tyre for racing and training”. Here are the previews with full reviews coming soon.

Fizik Vento Vega Carbon White (£389.99)

Fizik’s Vento Vega Carbon shoes are the brand’s latest flagship racing model, featuring a new ergonomic design and an integrated carbon sole.

Compared to previous Fizik shoes, the Vega Carbon has a straighter profile, a lower heel-to-toe drop, and a roomier toebox, changes that Fizik says enhance both stability and comfort. The full-carbon outsole is also partially “concealed beneath the upper fabric to reduce overall stack height in the cleat area”. Fizik says this maximises power transfer.

Sam Smith is currently testing the white version, but the shoes are also available in white/blue/fluro and black.

Trek Air Rush Mini Electric Pump (£79.99)

Is it time to ditch the annoying mini pump and/or avoid the faff of CO2 cartridges and go electric?

Trek’s Air Rush Mini Electric Pump is a rechargeable bike pump, that the US brand claims can achieve a maximum pressure of 120psi. It weighs just 133g and measures 3.15 x 1.77 x 1.26  inches, so you can easily carry it in a jersey pocket.

The potential of a flat battery might put you off an electric bike pump, but Trek claims that one charge replaces up to four CO₂ cartridges. Will that work in the real world? The full review is due shortly.

Ribble’s Ultra-Race road bike is at the top of its range, designed to sit somewhere between pure aero and ultra-lightweight race models. It’s made from MT65 carbon – a first in bike manufacturing – which Ribble says increases strength and stiffness in areas such as the bottom bracket, while also reducing weight.

Ribble claims the top-spec build weighs just 6.58kg. Our test bike, the lower-tier build with Shimano 105 Di2, Ksyrium 30 wheels, and Pirelli P-Zero tyres, weighs in at 8.3kg (size M).

Specialized says its 2025 road tyres are its fastest, lightest, and most durable ever, and the S-Works Turbo TLR comes with a new tread pattern and a 20g weight reduction that is said to improve rolling resistance by 10%.

The S-Works Turbo TLR is designed for both training and racing, with an added puncture-resistant strip that, according to the brand, makes it a go-to tyre for all-season riding in both wet and dry conditions.

It’s available in 28mm and 30mm widths, each with standard or tan sidewalls. We are testing the lightest version (28mm, tan) which weighs in at 264g on the road.cc Scales of Truth.
