Swiss Side has issued a safety recall on certain of its Hadron wheels following yesterday’s product recall by its manufacturing partner DT Swiss.

DT Swiss yesterday said, “Analysis of a small number of reported incidents involving bicycle wheels from the ERC product families has shown that spontaneous delamination (detachment of the outer carbon layers) can occur in the rim flange area of the model series mentioned. The rim bed is not affected by this delamination but is also damaged as a result of the structural weakening. This form of delamination leads to considerable structural weakening and even total failure of the rim.

“The product defect described increases the risk of an accident that could result in property damage, serious injury or death.”

DT Swiss had issued a Stop-Use Notice earlier in the month.

DT Swiss is recalling affected wheel models of the ERC, CRC, and HEC series with rim heights of 35 and 45mm, and models of the ARC series with rim heights of 50, 55, and 65 mm.

ARC wheel models in 38, 62, 80, and 85mm rim heights are NOT included in the recall, and neither are any rims manufactured in DT Swiss`s own facility in Poland.

The affected products are wheels from the following model series delivered from 1st August, 2024:

  • ARC 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT 50 / 55 / 65
  • ARC 1600 SPLINE 50 / 55 / 65
  • ERC 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT 35 / 45
  • ERC 1600 SPLINE 35 / 45
  • ERC LOG CLASSIC 45
  • CRC 1100 DICUT 45
  • CRC 1400, 1600 SPLINE 35 / 45
  • HEC 1400 SPLINE 45

“These products were sold either as parts of a complete bicycle or as individual components via online retailers or specialist shops,” says DT Swiss. “This product safety recall only affects bicycle wheels with carbon fibre composite rims (commonly known as carbon rims) that were manufactured in Vietnam.

“Only bicycle wheels with a DT Swiss ID number of 2740000 or higher are potentially affected by this product safety recall. Not all products with a DT Swiss ID number of 2740000 or higher are necessarily affected by this product safety recall. It is therefore necessary to check the DT Swiss ID number to determine whether your product is subject to the product safety recall.”

Now Swiss Side has said that certain of its Hadron wheels from specific product batches could be affected too. The wheels in question are these:

  • Hadron2 All Road 450
  • Hadron2 All Road Ultimate 450
  • Hadron2 Classic 500
  • Hadron2 Ultimate 500
  • Hadron3 Classic 550
  • Hadron3 Classic 650

Again, potentially affected wheels will have been sold after the start of August 2024 and will have a DT Swiss serial number higher than 2740000.

If you do have these wheels, you should stop riding them immediately and check the serial numbers (both front and rear wheels) on the DT Swiss website

Swiss Side says, “If the wheels are unaffected, no further action is required. If wheels are affected, follow the process described on [the DT Swiss] site. DT Swiss will directly manage all following steps and communications directly with customers.”

Hadron wheel models 380, 625, 680, 800 and 850 are NOT included in this recall, nor are Hadron3 Ultimate models manufactured in DT Swiss’s Polish facility.
