Continental has launched the Archetype racing tyre, a new top-tier tubeless-ready road bike tyre designed purely for racing. The limited edition tyre has been developed for UAE Team Emirates-XRG for this year’s Tour de France and is claimed to be Continental’s fastest and lightest 30mm tyre to date, shaving a claimed 35g off the Grand Prix 5000S TR tyre. The Archetype is available exclusively in a 30mm width and retails for £94.99 (€105.95) per tyre.

Claiming to be “even faster than [their] fastest race tyres”, Continental has released the limited edition Archetyre racing tyre, designed purely for racing and to be used by Tadej Pogačar and UAE Team Emirates-XRG at this year’s Tour de France.

“We were asked by UAE Team Emirates – XRG to build a tyre that could deliver even faster performance in a 30mm width”, said Hannah Ferle, Road Product Manager at Continental.

“The result is the Archetype: a tyre that distills our decades of racing expertise into a pure, purpose-built product. It’s minimal, fast, and made for those who live to compete.”

Continental claims the Archetype has been optimised for both weight and rolling resistance, and like many of their other tyres, it features the brand’s BlackChilli compound, designed to balance grip and low rolling resistance.

The tyre also features Active Comfort Technology to absorb vibrations, and LazerGrip micro profile structure that claims to enhance grip when cornering.

The Archetype comes in a single width of 30mm, reflecting the growing trend in the pro peloton towards wider tyres. This shift is driven by the performance benefits wider tyres offer, including lower rolling resistance, improved comfort, and better grip.

The Archetype is a tubeless-ready, hookless-compatible tyre, available exclusively with a black sidewall. It has a claimed weight of 275g, around 35g lighter than Continental’s Grand Prix 5000S TR, which is the current preferred choice for many Continental-sponsored teams.

Meanwhile, Continental’s time trial-specific Grand Prix 5000 TT TR remains the brand’s lightest tubeless tyre, weighing in at a claimed 240g in its largest available size, 28mm.

The premium GP 5000S TR, which currently tops our road bike tyres buyer’s guide, retails at £84.95, while the Archetype comes in at roughly £10 more.
