Hunt have released their widest gravel wheels to date for hitting the rough stuff with confidence – the new 35 Carbon Gravel Disc X-Wide has a 35mm depth and a 30mm width that is 23mm internal, capable of taking up to a 50mm tyre.

Review: Hunt 30 Carbon Gravel Disc Wheelset

Hunt’s 30 Carbon wheels received a five star rating from our reviewer two years ago based on their impressive width, strength and lightness (read it above) and the new 35 Carbon is wider and presumably tougher all for a 69g weight increase over the 30’s, at 1,548g for a pair. They were developed because Hunt’s customers and sponsored riders were requesting even wider and stronger wheels for rough gravel tracks, and they will be used by pro cyclocross racer Gosse Van Der Meer in his attempt to win this year’s 200km Dirty Reiver gravel race in Northumberland.

The 23mm internal rim width is optimised for tyres around 40mm, but Hunt recommend that you can go as low as 28mm or as high as 50mm. The 35mm depth was selected for extra stiffness and strength, plus some more aero efficiency over shallower rims. The same 4.3° RapidEngage 6-pawl hub as the 30 Carbon wheel is used, and the 24/28 spoke count makes them strong enough for riders of up to 115kg as recommended by Hunt.

As with all Hunt’s carbon disc wheels, they’ve blended their V:Absorbe resin in the carbon layering, curing at a lower temperature which they claim gives the wheels greater resistance impact and dampens vibrations more effectively.

The wheels are £899 for the pair on Hunt’s website and there are versions for all existing Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo freehubs, available to pre-order for a late February delivery.
