Rapha unveils Commuter Jacket

New waterproof is designed to be worn both on and off the bike

Rapha has today released a new Commuter Jacket that's intended to keep you dry and comfortable on the bike while looking good enough to wear off it.

The Commuter Jacket is made from a waterproof fabric that's exclusive to Rapha. It is said to be a hard-wearing and breathable microporous material — so it lets sweaty vapour escape — with a hydrophobic membrane and a DWR (durable water repellent) treatment. All of the seams are sealed to keep water out.

Features include an elasticated hem, adjustable hood, zipped front pockets and storm binding at the cuffs. The off-centre front zip is water repellent.

You get a reflective dot pattern on the back, positioned to be visible just below a backpack, if you're wearing one.

The cut is relaxed compared to that of a sports-type jacket, the idea being that you can wear this off the bike too.

The Rapha Commuter Jacket is priced at £100 and is available in yellow, bright orange, hi-vis pink and black for men, and in yellow, hi-vis pink and black for women.

I quite like my Rapha cycling kit, generally well made if a little pricey. This jacket, to double as casual wear, is probably great at the RRP.... but does come across as a bit Nike/Adidas naff with the big logo on the back.

Main quibble would be it saying "Rapha" in huge letters on the back.  Next question: how come women don't get to have one in orange?
