Simon Yates will this afternoon ride into Paris in the white jersey as best young rider at the Tour de France, emulating the achievement of twin brother and Orica-Scott team mate Adam 12 months ago – and he’ll do so on a special edition ‘ying-yang’ Scott Addict RC prepared by the Australian WorldTour outfits bike sponsor.
The 24-year-old from Bury, Lancashire all but assured himself of the jersey after yesterday’s individual time trial in Marseille, which he finished in the exact same time as his closest rival, Louis Meintjes of UAE Team Emirates, and barring mishap on today’s final stage will be on the podium in Paris this evening.
“It will take some time, but it is starting to sink in,” said Yates. “I’m really happy and a little bit relieved that I have pulled it off too.
“I came here with the goal of winning this jersey from day one and that was no secret. For me it’s a great thing and I’m sure for the team as well.
“Also with my brother winning it last year it’s nice to keep it in the family, and we hope we can turn them into another colour one day."
The black-and-white paint scheme on the bike differs on each side – what is black on the drivetrain side is white when seen from the other side, and vice-versa, an approach that extends to the Syncros parts including seat post, handlebar, stem and saddle.
The colour scheme also extends to his Scott RC Road shoes, one black, one white, while his Scott Cadence helmet also reflects elements of the bike’s décor.
