London-based Svelte Apparel launches Heritage Long Sleeve Jersey

British made merino wool long sleeve winter jersey now available

Svelte Apparel is one of the newest cycle clothing manufacturers on the scene, but there is one key thing that sets this company apart: the clothing is manufactured in Mile End, East London.

We can’t think of many other clothing brands that manufacture in the UK, making Svelte pretty unique.

With winter now fully settled in, the company has just added the new Heritage Long Sleeve Jersey to its range. It’s a 3-season jersey made from merino wool and has the same subtle styling as its previous Heritage short sleeve jersey.

The new winter jersey has been extensively tested and is manufactured in London from materials sourced in Europe. That means a Danish Merino Perform Fabric which the company reckons it “works hard during the winter, maintaining warm body temperature, wicking sweat in our classically defined design.”

Features include your typical three rear pockets for carrying food and essentials, with a fourth button-down pocket, ideal for safely stashing your house keys. There’s also a concealed pocket in seam and a full-length front zipper. Svelte describes the jersey as having an athletic fit.

Launched by Londoner Tom Barber, Svelte’s founder, he adds: “The new Long Sleeve Heritage Jersey is the next step for Svelte, producing new cycle-wear that maintains and builds on our beautiful collection. Perfect for cool winter and early spring rides, this jersey is developed for comfort and style on as well as off the bike. The result of extensive testing and development is a versatile, 3-season jersey where subtle aesthetics meet high-performance.”

The Svelte Heritage Jersey is available now in three colours and various sizes and costs £110.

Subtle design. High quality materials . Reasonably priced. Made in Britain.....has to be worth a try. Good luck to them.

Bought some Rapha tops recently, lovely stuff but was very pissed off when I saw 'made in china' on the tags. If they can't support European manufacturing then who can...

Ah, just remembered, Shutt were making most of their range (jerseys and caps) in the UK.

Could agree more with Point.  For me, Torm kit is great quality and value.  Love my tops, go to choice everytime except when its boiling hot.  I get some people's view on it being rapha rip off, but producing something sportwool and adding a stripe is not enfringing any copyright.  Its credit to rapha, you set the bar, people will follow.  Ordering more inthe new year.

Svelte Apparel looks very good and respect for going british made, and still keeping the price point below other big brands.

Fairly sure Torm are made in the UK. Could be wrong. But they are half the price.....

nope the rapha rip offs are Far East made. Good for the price but you get what you pay for ie no, they are nowhere near rapha quality (speaking from my own experience)

as for swelte good luck to them - but maybe slightly less plain designs next time? Haven't vulpine cornered the market on this style already?

Wow, I couldn't disagree anymore with that. You're the first bad word I've heard on Torm. Other than that, I love my Long Sleeve Jersey from torm. Exceptionally well cut, great fit, dual zipped pockets (and spacious pockets). The only thing I wish torm did was some more subtle colours like the maroon one as I'm not a huge fan on Vibrant greens, blues, reds etc...

I highly recommend torm, their customer service is superb also!

I've bought a lot of Rapha. My Torm jersey is easily as good as the Rapha equivalent. Rapha aren't made in the UK either.

I think the whole point of the design is minimalism no? Less of the garish logo emblazened rubbish you see all over sunday cyclists that want to be like Lance but with two plums?

I love the Svelte design, I have tried a short-sleeved heritage and the fit is impeccable (on me anyways, I am a tri-athlete and a natural medium and mine is snug, so perhaps consider upping by one size if you are anything but 'Svelte'), looks classy (even in the pub after riding), and is made in LONDON...what more can you ask for?

Yes, the price is a tiny bit higher than others, but it's worth it. They have clearly spent a lot of time designing the range to make sure pockets are in the right place etc.

Sure, Torm are a good rip-off, but they're made in sweat-shops like all the other rip-off brands out there, not in the UK where we should be bringing manufacture back home to. Well done Svelte for setting a new benchmark.
