Weldtite TF2 Performance All-Weather Lubricant 100ml

Great all rounder for those who don't like traditional wet lubes

At every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

What the scores mean

Good scores are more common than bad, because fortunately good products are more common than bad.

Weldtite TF2 Performance All Weather Lubricant is just that, a high quality, versatile and relatively inexpensive everyday prep that should please most riders.

Bucking the trend for two-part synthetics, it's a very low viscosity mix of highly refined mineral oils, PTFE and additives that is simple to apply and only requires a few seconds curing time.

Suspiciously similar to B'Twin's Lube with Teflon, right down to its rich lime colour and consistency, it races from the otherwise nicely designed spout, so deliver it carefully while holding some old rag underneath.

Clean up and curing time is literally seconds before scooting off. While it's wet in the literal sense, there's nothing remotely sticky about it, which keeps contamination minimal. Teflon based lubricants tend to be marketed as all-purpose, so I wasn't surprised by its ability to keep cleat mechanisms, trailer hitches and jockey wheels glitch free.

However, it's stocky enough to silence noisy freewheels without causing pivot points or control cables to gum solid. I've also found it useful for protecting entry and exit points on old steel framesets sporting internal cable runs.

Like the the B'Twin Lubricant with Teflon it's slick and itstays put. We've racked up over 400 miles on a single application and passing contaminant seems to float away, especially on chains made from stainless steel or coated with titanium nitride. Anecdotally, one Canadian rider commented it's the only lube he's found that works in -38°C.

That sounds like a tall tale, especially given the modest asking price but even with flooded rural causeways and daily service, a strong film of lubricant still adorns the Univega's chain. Shifting is similarly precise, though there's no comparison with space age fluoro-polymers. Regular mixed terrain saunters have done little to change this view. Moderate trail gloop sits atop the surface and is dismissed expediently.

Much the same story along dusty fire roads too, although both demanded weekly wiping of side plates, derailleur cages and jockey wheels. In these autumnal contexts we've returned 350 miles from a single application and a strong lubricant film still adorns the fixer's after 450.
