Like a lot of CPFC fans, I take anything Simon Jordan says with a pinch of salt. Jordan took over an ailing football club, got it into the premiership and then his ego got even bigger, followed by him running the club downhill fast. He's not remembered fondly by many down at Selhurst Park. He might actually know his wines as he did own a restaurant for a while. But he can stick his views on cycling up his behind.

This is a bit of a Catch-22, though, as they can't possibly commit to that currently because... they don't have the funding (as well as other restraints, like the ability to acquire land to close gaps). And, as pointed out in the article, what's being provided isn't nearly enough to close that gap. And on the flip side, while it is hugely frustratingly fragmentary, and contains sections that are certainly rubbish, there are also odd sections near me that are genuinely useful and do see plenty of 'ordinary cyclist' use, and it would be a real shame if those fell into disrepair for want of funds.

@AidanR But again, no-one said that it did. They said that it does not follow from the fact that there was an incident that TT bikes *are* more dangerous. Because an incident can occur to a rider on any type of bike. And this is evidenced by the fact that there's a whole list of incidents happening to people on road bikes. I assume you mean the quotes from his brother, rather than teammate. They don't actually contradict that claim. It says that he wasn't able to brake, but it doesn't follow that if he had been then he would have been able to avoid the incident. In any case, the danger still didn't come from the bike here - it came from the two tonne box that suddenly swung into its path. @Gary James Well yes, but that also is pretty easily tested by hopping on the bike for a few moments. In practice anyway most legal ebikes don't have a throttle for that function, all the ones I've seen and a couple of kits I've owned just have a button on the control panel/display to activate it. Maybe there are some that have an actual throttle but I would have thought it's pretty unnecessary to go from 0-3.5mph, it's only really designed for pushing assistance. ETA I don't know why clicking on reply to you calls up the tag Gary James instead of Tradescant!

I do hope the new routes around HS2 do go ahead. Would be an ideal opportunity to create a very good cycling corridor along the haul roads that have been created during construction. I fear that this won't happen as a cost saving exercise when the reality is that it'll cost more to put the land back to how it was before! They've already done some of that near us rather than leaving the Greenway connected as it was for a short time in Berkswell

@Rendel Harris Throttles are permiited to facilitate walking mode, limited to 3.7 mph. The presence or absence of a throttle does not in itself determine legality.
