Cycling has been dropped in favour of football at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester later this year.
The shock decision comes following a review of the event after UK Sport withdrew its funding. BT is sponsoring the event, but organisers say the move will enable other Paralympic sports to receive key competition and exposure in the build-up to 2012.
The news will come as a grave disappointment for British para-cyclists who have an excellent medal record at this and other para-cycling events. Sir Chris Hoy was present at the opening of the 2009 Paralympic World Cup, when track cycling was held across two and a half days of competition at the Manchester Velodrome,
The 2010 event, running from May 25-31, will now feature seven-a-side football for athletes with cerebral palsy, along with swimming, athletics and wheelchair basketball.

Is this decision a way to get the British Gov. to stump up more cash? Most Para cyclists were sportspeople before life changing circumstances so they too will feel betrayed by this shortsighted decision.
Britain now moves into a third world country status with supporters of Paralympic sport!
