A few people have commented on how they miss having to pick a proper purist team for the classics now that we've moved over to fully unlimited transfers between each race (which simplifies things a huge amount and hopefully will cause much less confusion than in previous years).
In light of this I'm setting up a 'proper purist' forum comp for the spring classics between the opening Omloop/KBK weekend and Paris-Roubaix (I'll set up a separate one for the Ardennes later).
The Rules - pick nine riders for 150 credits or less based on opening values this weekend. Usual rules apply so no more than two riders per team (no picking all of OPQS then).
The Points - Normal fantasy points will be scored by any and all active riders in each race included in the road.cc game, that's:
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad - Sat Mar 01 2014
Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne - Sun Mar 02 2014
Strade Bianche - Sat Mar 08 2014
Roma Maxima - Sun Mar 09 2014
Milan - San Remo - Sun Mar 23 2014
E3 Harelbeke - Fri Mar 28 2014
Gent - Wevelgem - Sun Mar 30 2014
Ronde Van Vlaanderen - Sun Apr 06 2014
Paris - Roubaix - Sun Apr 13 2014
This means that points will directly corralate with the main game. If your rider doesn't start a race then you get no points. There are no transfers, no swaps, no substitutions and no injury replacements. Your nine riders are your nine riders and that's it.
The Prize - Eternal Glory (ie nothing).
Entries required on/before 9am Saturday 1st March 2014. Please try and keep your entries into one post with any amendments in that post (so no quoting other peoples team please).
EDIT: I've just remembered that I'm out of the country the day that Paris-Roubaix runs so I'll also need a volunteer to put together the final scores, I'll sort everything out up to that point so someone will just need to come in and take all the glory.
Likewise, if someone wants to volunteer to carry the comp over into the Ardennes classics but with new teams picked (but points carried over) then that'd be great too.

I'm in
Boonen (OPQ) 18.4
Stybar (OPQ) 18.8
Stannard (SKY) 15.5
Cancellara (TFR) 25.2
Zoidl (TFR) 3.0
Vanmarcke (BEL) 11.8
Chavanel (IAM) 24.4
Phinney (BMC)17.7
Tsatevich (KAT) 12.8
147.6
Gotta try this out. It's my first time doing this and I don't know half the races. I'll probably come in last, but who knows? Thanks!
Tom Boonen 18.4
Fabian Cancellara 25.2
Filippo Pozzato 17.2
Philippe Gilbert 25.1
Matti Breschel 15.3
Bernhard Eisel 14.8
Thor Hushovd 23.7
Johan Van Summeren 9.7
Bjorn Leukemans 15.7
Nick Nuyens 3.0
Total 144.4
Looks pretty good to me - Leukemans was especially tempting although his team are only riding 6 of the 9 races. Having said that - you have ten riders instead of nine so the maths doesn't add up...
Ok, I'll fix it. How do you know that Leukeman's team is only riding 6 races? Where can find that out? I also have Pozzato and the same might be true of him... I have to change Gilbert, too, since I just read he's only going to do the Ardennes... Decisions, Decisions... Please tell me where to find out that team info, please, and I'll make a change. Thanks!
I just did a web search and found the startlists for each of the races, and then totted up which teams were riding which races. (Yes I was a bit bored at work...) It doesn't mean that much, as just because Sky (for example) are riding all 9, it doesn't mean that any individual rider will be in them all.
Lampre are down to ride 7/9 if that helps.
In fact the World Tour teams are all riding at least 7 except Saxo (6) and Orica (5).
Here we go,
1. Cancellara 25.2
2. Sagan 40
3. Boonen 18.4
4. Stybar 18.8
5. Phinney 17.7
6. Stannard 15.5
7. Quinziato 6.5
8. Leezer 4.8
9. Zoidl 3
Total 149.9
Zoidl is a total unknown quantity. If you look at his record for last year it is the best around for a Neo-Pro pretty much. Who knows how he is going to be used this year.
He looks very impressive.
BOONEN 18.4
CHAVANEL 22.4
CANCELLARA 25.2
VANMARCKE 11.8
G.V.A 22.8
MOSER17.0
LANGEVELD 14.8
NUYENS 3.0
OFFREDO 12.3
147.7
The problem with Zoidl is that he scored his points on high mountain and time trial stages which don't make up the classic races whereas thanks to his TT win Hepburn scored points on the flat and the classic are mainly set up as flat stages.
Looking forward to this one drheaton....Good on you..
STANNARD 15.5
THOMAS 15.9
STYBAR 18.8
BOONEN 18.4
CHAVANEL 22.4
CANCELLARA 25.2
VANMARCKE 11.8
DEBUSSCHERE 15.3
NUYENS 3.0
TOTAL = 146.3
Zoidl's an interesting one for two reasons:
1. I don't understand why he's still valued at only 3.0 after the Tour Med
2. Will he actually get a ride? Seems more of a man for the week-long tours or DS-ing at the Giro/Vuelta.
Still, I've punted on Van Baarle and Mohoric as my 3.0s, so what do I know?
Your right about the value, i thought he would have been higher, my 3.0 pick is Hepburn who is now 7.7 credits, he must be quite good at the classics style races.
With my efforts so far this season everyone best avoid anyone I put in my team.
Sagan 40.0
Cancellara 25.2
Stybar 18.8
Stannard 15.5
Thomas 15.9
Wallays 16.2
Cummings 6.0
Clement 8.5
Brajkovic 3.0
149.1
If Boonen crashes out in the first race you could be quids in - I think you're the only one not to pick him!
Does a rider actually have to be in the race to get the team win bonus?
EDIT: scratch that, the question is answered in OP (i.e. yes, they do)

Boonen 18.4
Minard 11.6

Why not 10.5 bonus points for unused credit ?
If that WAS the case, I'd pick 9 x 3.0 riders, for a bonus each time of 123 points !

Just to clarify, the plan is to allow everyone to pick a new team when we get to the Ardennes classics so this team will run up to and including Paris-Roubaix then a new team can be picked. Purist has it's limits and I think picking one team for the cobbled and Ardennes classics is a bit much
Scores will carry over so it'll be one single comp but I'll open up the Ardennes stages closer to the time.
S.Chavanel 22.4
Z.Stybar 18.8
T.Leezer 4.8
R.Zoidl 3

T.Phinney 17.7
T.Boonen 18.4
R.Faria Da Costa 29.1
D.Ulissi 24.7
Total 148.6
I'll go as well, tried to be a bit different but failed. Had to choose between a) Sagan and a cheapo and b) Stybar/Chavanel so thought I'd risk it...
Cancellara 25.2
Chavanel 24.4
Van Avermaet 22.8
Roelandts 20.5
Stybar 18.8
Boonen 18.4
Offredo 12.3

Vanmarcke 11.8
Van Baarle 3.0
Delage 4.9
Bandiera 3.0
149.6
I will do Paris-Roubaix for you as I may end up doing scores for some of the stages anyway.
If your using a separate spreadsheet you have m email anyway, and I can add that days scores in and send them back
You can get the prices by going to http://fantasy.road.cc/rankings
Riders are ranked by score rather than price and a few of the more obscure riders are missing so if you want a price for someone in particular let me know and I'll sort it.
I've just picked my purist team for all 12 Classics (there is a league listed - all purist, no premium). OK, maybe in some races I will not have any riders in, but there are 12 to score in!
I know TER and a lot of people can do them easily, but if you have no takers, I'll be happy to do them both
Balls - Well that's my first choice team denied
