Bontrager might be Trek’s in-house component brand, but these Line Pro flat pedals stand on their own merit thanks to tough construction and plenty of tuneable grip.

The pedal platform is made from heavily machined aluminium that allows mud and muck to clear the body easily, while the grip is provided by ten replaceable pins per side. The pins thread in from the back of the pedal, aiding damage replacement and it’s also possible to adjust the height of them by removing a small washer. To be honest, you’ll probably just want to run them at their longest setting but if you’re particularly picky about your pins then it’s nice to have the option.

The platform is decently broad and wide too, with a slight concave shape that helps your foot sit into it. It’s comfy on long rides and there’s plenty of support when you’re descending. The edges of the pedal are a little deeper than most, but I didn’t really notice the reduced ground clearance in use and the pedals shrugged off any and all strikes with minimal damage. The pedals spin on sealed cartridge bearings and they’ve lasted really well, with very little play or slop developing over the course of many months of mucky testing.

All in all, the Line Pros are really very good pedals that can suck up the punishment and offer plenty of grip. At 420g for the pair, they’re moderately heavy for the money, but that’s certainly offset by the fact they’ve lasted extremely well. Bontrager might not be the first brand you’d look to, but you’d definitely miss out if you ignore these. The only small issue is that if you want a set in this rather lovely orange, then sorry, the only colour currently available is black.
