While cross-country racing has fallen out of the limelight with the rise of enduro, there are still plenty of hardcore riders and racers looking to shave every last gram from their bikes. Miche’s K1 Carbon 29″ wheels can certainly help there, tipping the scales at just 1,411g for the pair, complete with tubeless kit installed.

Miche might not be as big a name as some other wheel brands, but this company has been making wheels in it’s native Italy for a long old time now, with a pretty well-developed mountain bike range that covers everything from high-value trail wheels to much shinier items such as these.

As you can probably guess from the super low weight, this wheelset is their top-end cross-country racing setup. At £1,599 it’s not cheap by any means, but compared to big-name carbon fibre rivals it actually offers pretty impressive value for the weight.

The asymmetrical carbon fibre rims have a hookless bead and internal width of 27mm, which is pretty much spot-on for modern cross-country rubber widths. The spoke count is unsurprisingly low, with 24 round steel straight pull spokes at either end, all threaded together with conventional aluminium nipples.

The hubs are pretty trick too; the aluminium bodies have a reinforcing carbon fibre wrap on the centre section. Discs are mounted with Shimano’s Centrelock system, which helps keep weight low too, though adaptors for six-bolt rotors are included. The rear comes with your pick of Microspline, SRAM XD or conventional HG driver body – but whichever you choose will be made from lightweight titanium. Bling.

They’re only being made in Boost spacing and 29″ diameter, which is unsurprising considering the intended use. We’re also feeling the all-matte black murdered-out looks too. We’ll be bolting these to a test bike and seeing how well they stand up to some proper use soon…
