A motorist in Sydney has spoken of her shock at seeing a cyclist in rush-hour traffic with a small child clinging to his neck.
The driver, who did not wish to disclose her name, sent a photograph of the pair taken at 6pm on Tuesday evening to Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph.
A link to the newspaper’s article showing the picture, in which a shopping bag can also be seen dangling from the handlebars of the bike, was posted to Twitter by UK-based advanced driving instructor Peter Owen.

The woman who took the picture told the newspaper: “The child looked to be about four years old.
“All I could think was imagine if they hit a bump and how long can he hold on like that for, he was tiny!”
She added that law-breaking motorists in the area were also a concern.
“It’s so dangerous, especially in that part of the city and during peak hour when cars around me are running red lights.”
A spokesman for New South Wales police said: “It is obviously disappointing and dangerous when bicycle riders are non-compliant with helmet matters.
“It is more alarming when a child’s safety is also compromised in a manner such as this,” he added.

What a cool dad. That kid
What a cool dad. That kid will have an awesome upbringing.
Unlike the hysterical pantywaists who reported it and then frothed ad infinitum. Their kids will grow up feckless indolents who die early of coronary disease.
I would like to hear what the
I would like to hear what the mother of the child privately said about it.
None of my business.

I don’t understand why stuff like this causes so much fuss. In malaysia whole families ride on single mopeds…

Right, so the police think it’s disappointing and dangerous when cyclists are “non-compliant”, but they don’t do anything about the red light running by cars?
(BTW: it’s clearly a pretty stupid thing to do, but making a song and dance about it is a bit much I think.)
Is it illegal to use phones
Is it illegal to use phones while in control of a motor vehicle in NZ or did she just happen to have a camera at hand?

Yep. It’s Fully illegal in NZ, but I couldn’t vouch for Australia where this photo was taken, being as it’s as far from NZ as UK is from Libya…
But as someone said, this is commonplace in many asian countries, so why the fuss about it happening in a ‘western’ country? Funny that the cops are disappointed about the lack of hlemet, but less so the kid on Dad’s back…
I wouldn’t do this with my kids on a public road, but certainly have in our back yard and other locations.
Lastly, this does appear to be taken from the passengers seat of the car…..
Just today I saw someone
Just today I saw someone using a car in rushhour traffic in a densely populated urban area, pumping out diesel particulates for children to breath in!
Sheer irresponsibility.
