Witnesses are being sought after a cyclist was found dead on a road in South Gloucestershire on Tuesday evening.

In a statement, Avon & Somerset Constabulary said that the man, aged 20 and from Thornbury, was discovered by the side of the A403 at 6.45pm on the evening of 3 November.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which happened near the junction of Aust village and Old Passage.

Collision investigators believe that the victim may have been hit by a lorry and think they have traced the vehicle involved.

Officers have interviewed the driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old man from Bath.

They are now appealing for people travelling on the road at approximately 6.15pm and who witnessed the collision or saw the cyclist, who was heading towards Avonmouth, to get in touch.

Police add that the road, which lies close to the eastern shore of the Severn Estuary between the bridges linking the M4 and M48 motorways between England and Wales, would have been busy at the time.

Anyone who has information is asked to call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number CI/244/15.
