It’s a helmet and eyewear special this week, with budget-friendly sunglasses from Van Rysel and more premium eyewear from POC, alongside helmets from HJC and Uvex, in for testing. Here are the previews ahead of our full reviews coming to the site soon.

New for this year, the Adidas Sport Kentro sunglasses are designed to look good both on and off the bike. Featuring a full-frame, classic design, they stand apart from many of the oversized, frameless, wraparound styles that currently dominate the market.

At 35g on the road.cc Scales of Truth, the Kentro sunglasses have some substance without being heavy. They are available in six different colour options, with our test pair finished in a smart matte blue. The Kentro has an RRP of £133.11, although at the time of writing they can be found online for £84.38.

HJC has been making bicycle helmets for over 20 years and has its own in-house wind tunnel testing facility to aid its helmet designs. We tested the previous generation Bellus in 2023 where it impressed and earned an excellent 9/10 score.

HJC describes the Bellus 2.0 as “a helmet for real world speeds, on gravel and road bikes”, and claims that it’s a “cooler, sleeker helmet with a smaller profile than its predecessor”. According to the brand, ventilation has been improved by 3.2%. Despite the smaller profile, however, our medium-sized test sample weighs 26g more than the previous Bellus in the same size.

Steve Williams is currently testing the Bellus 2.0, so check back soon for his full review and verdict.

Van Rysel Kware Category 3 cycling glasses (£59.99)

At just £59.99, the Van Rysel Kware Category 3 cycling glasses look to offer plenty of performance for relatively little outlay. They feature the large single-lens, wraparound design that has become increasingly popular in cycling eyewear, while tipping the scales at an impressively light 26g.

The polycarbonate Category 3 lens filters out up to 88% of visible light and provides full UV protection, making the glasses well suited to bright riding conditions.

Jez Ash is currently testing the white-frame, purple-lens version and alternative colour options include black and beige frames. Stay tuned for his full verdict.

The Uvex City Stride is pitched as an everyday urban helmet, with the German brand describing it as offering a “secure fit, comfortable shape, and simple button operation”.

A key feature is the brands Monomatic comfort lock, which allows the chin strap to be opened with one hand, according to Uvex. At 430g, the City Stride is no featherweight but the City Stride is aimed at urban cyclists looking for straightforward protection and ease of use.

The helmet is available in three sizes – 53-56cm, 56-59cm and 59-61cm – and comes in a choice of three colours: Lilac Matte, Black Matte and Rhino Matte. We’ll have to wait for the full review to see how it performs on the road.

Designed for both road and mountain biking, the Devour features an oversized shield lens, with clarity lens technology which is designed to enhance colours while still providing full UV protection.

The Devour is only available in a one size, although POC has included fully adjustable temples and nosepiece to help riders dial in the fit. While the Devour sits firmly at the premium end of the market and carries an eye-watering price tag, POC does include a second lens for low-light conditions
