Woman charged following Jeremy Vine road rage incident

22-year-old student from south London due to appear in court next month

A 22-year-old South London woman has been charged in connection with an alleged road rage incident filmed by BBC radio host and Crimewatch presenter Jeremy Vine as he rode home from work through Kensington in August.

Shanique Syrena Pearson, a student from Vauxhall, has been charged with driving without reasonable consideration to other road users, failing to licence a vehicle, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, reports the London Evening Standard.

She is due to appear on Tuesday 8 November at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on November 8.

Vine shared video of the incident, in which he says the motorist kicked out at him, on his Facebook page where it has amassed more than half a million views.

The footage was viewed more than half a million times online and sparked a debate about the safety of cycling in London.

This week, the 51-year-old broadcaster posted another video to Facebook showing a driver pulling into his path from a road to the left as he rode along a cycle lane. He said: “The cycle-commute in London sometimes involves you seeing a driver and thinking, ‘On another day, he would have killed me’.”
