The motorist, sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work, also blasted his horn continuously before passing the cyclists, but denied braking deliberately
The disturbing footage appears to show S.C. Padovani Polo Cherry Bank riders ducking as a BMW driver fires shots and flees the scene
The S.C. Padovani Polo Cherry Bank riders were training in northern Italy, near Lake Garda, when the shocking incident took place, the motorist firing two shots at the group before fleeing the scene
The motorist, who was also alleged to have thrown an object at the cyclist, was initially banned from driving not for the incident but for refusing to share details with the police, later claiming that the two-year suspension was negatively impacting his
“I was travelling very slowly at about 2mph, so nothing happened to the bike rider, but he became very aggressive,” the driver said
The confrontation was sparked when the cyclist hit the van’s wing mirror on a narrow road, police officers later informing the rider that he should have tried to get the driver to confess on camera
The cyclist was riding with his wife when the driver pulled over in front of them, slammed on the brakes, and jumped out of the van to assault the man and cause criminal damage to the bike
“We’re going to the hospital because I’m bleeding to death,” the irate passenger told the cyclist during the minute-long standoff, warning him to “get out of the way and move your f***ing bike”
“The cyclist, who I presume obviously didn’t see him, must have gone into the back of him,” the motorist’s father said about the initial incident that sparked the confrontation, which they claim was captured on a bus driver’s dashcam
The motorist, who claimed he was “doing the speed limit”, blocked the road and shouted at the cyclist to “fight me” and “go back to Africa”, before attacking him in an alleged chance encounter outside the rider’s home the following day
