The Topeak E-Booster Digital is a well-designed electric portable pump, offering solid valve compatibility and a secure attachment system. It delivers strong initial inflation, but performance drops off noticeably, and the battery indicator is vague at best.

Topeak E-Booster Digital – Technical Information

The E-Booster Digital is built from a mix of plastic polymer and metal, with the metal used around the top and valve attachment area. It comes as a complete set, including a basic silicone case and a short extension tube as standard. The case is simple but easy to fit and remove, and while it covers the on/off and pressure adjustment buttons, they’re still easy to locate and operate.

Topeak claims the pump can inflate up to 120 PSI (8.27 bar). The extension tube includes both Presta and Schrader attachments, while the pump can also be threaded directly onto a Schrader valve without the tube.

The bare unit weighs 163g, or 210g including the case and extension tube. It measures 85 x 60 x 37mm, with the extension tube adding an extra 80mm in length. The internal 600mAh battery is claimed to inflate a 700x45mm tyre to 40 PSI six times, or a 29×2.4” MTB tyre to 25 PSI four times.

Topeak E-Booster Digital – Performance

To assess the E-Booster Digital’s real-world performance, we ran a series of timed inflation tests to evaluate both speed and battery life. Using an inner tube to reduce air loss, we tested the pump on a 29 x 2.4in mountain bike tyre and a 700 x 45mm gravel tyre, recording the time taken to reach 25 PSI and 30 PSI respectively. Each inflation was timed, and we also noted the final pressure reached on the last inflation before the battery was depleted.

E-Booster Pro results:

29 x 2.4in MTB tyre to 25 PSI:

  • Inflation 1: 1 minute 12 seconds
  • Inflation 2: 1 minute 24 seconds
  • Inflation 3: 1 minute 32 seconds
  • Inflation 4: Reached 23 PSI before shutting off

700 x 45mm gravel tyre to 30 PSI:

  • Inflation 1: 56 seconds
  • Inflation 2: 58 seconds
  • Inflation 3: 1 minute 4 seconds
  • Inflation 4: 1 minute 45 seconds
  • Inflation 6: Reached 6 PSI before shutting off

The E-Booster Digital produced 75 dB of noise when measured from one metre away, which is about average for electric inflators and consistent with their typically loud operation.

Inflation times and output were competitive with other compact electric pumps, and fairly close to Topeak’s claims. Performance was strongest with a full battery, with quick initial inflation, but there was a clear drop-off as the battery ran low. The battery display was a weak point, staying at full for most of the charge cycle before rapidly dropping to the final two bars just before running out.

In use, the unit is simple and straightforward. The valve switch is well-positioned and simple to operate, and the LCD screen is clear and easy to read. The pressure adjustment buttons are conveniently placed if you’re using the extension tube, allowing just enough movement to keep the valve at the 12 o’clock position while reading the screen.

The short extension tube threads smoothly onto a Presta valve, making attachment easy. For Schrader valves, the switch must be correctly positioned, and either the pump must be threaded directly onto the valve, which can be fiddly, or a short section on the end of the tube needs to be removed.

Topeak E-Booster Digital – Value and Verdict

The Topeak E-Booster Digital is priced at £100, putting it in line with other premium electric pumps, though the materials and overall feel don’t quite match that premium expectation. Performance is mixed as the initial inflation is impressively quick, outpacing other pumps tested so far, but as the battery depletes, the pump begins to struggle audibly, and inflation times increase noticeably.

It’s a strong choice for those with bikes running both Presta and Schrader valves, thanks to the easy-to-use valve switch and the well-designed extension tube, which makes attachment straightforward. With a full battery, it performs well and manages to keep up with the competition even as the battery runs low, though not without effort.

Similar price point to other premium portable pumps.

Overall performance:

The pump works well initially, but performance tails off as the battery capacity dwindles. The unit is well constructed, and the valve attachment is very simple to use.

Product likes:

Easy switch between valves and solid connection to the valve.

Product dislikes:

The battery indicator drops from full to empty very quickly, and slow inflation on a low battery.

Recommend:

Yes, for riders who have bikes with Schrader and Presta valves

Conclusion:

The Topeak E-Booster Digital offers fast initial inflation and convenient valve compatibility, making it a solid option for riders using both Presta and Schrader valves. But the performance drops noticeably as the battery drains, and the vague battery indicator can be frustrating. While it’s priced alongside premium competitors, the overall feel and consistency don’t quite match the best alternatives.
