With a name like Revelation, you already expect a lot from a jacket and with an immaculate fit and exceptional details, this one from 7Mesh will keep you comfy in all weathers, including those times when it’s exceptionally bad.

Built from Gore-Tex Pro fabric, its construction is robust and light – it doesn’t feel like much when first put on, but its stopped every drop of rain, gust of wind and flake of snow I put it out in.  It;’s deceptively tough, and made to pass the “Guaranteed to Keep You Dry” standard which ensures waterproofing for the life of the jacket.

7MeshInc use a fit called ‘7 Day’ fit – its bike patterned for riding, but still able to add layers and be comfy away from the trails.  The fit of the jacket is bike orientated, initially feeling off when not on the bike, but it’s not cut like roadie kit, it’s got a thoughtful MTB focus. The arms are long enough for when off the back of the bike, and there is enough length on the front to cover and create overlap with waterproof shorts, but not so long that there are areas of bunching that create pools of water in torrential weather.

The hood is detachable and actually works under a helmet while still allowing you to ride with minimal restriction. It’s great for long slogs up climbs in awful weather, where you can just keep that bit drier and a little more comfortable. There is a small brim that can be handy to duck behind and add a little more shielding from sideways rain. You can easily remove the hood, with handy poppers, if you prefer a sleeker look, and reduce the sail effect that can come as the hood catches the wind. I had no issues with it detaching whilst riding.

The front of the jacket has two handy and generous sized front pockets are great for fitting snacks, phone, and maps if you run analogue guidance. The cuffs feature velcro tabs and reflective elements to aid fit and visibility – the closures are slightly tapered and reduce water creeping up the underneath of the forearm. There are two taped, waterproof zips on the fore arm for venting. There are also two large side vents/openings for accessing jersey pockets underneath, when not worn with a rucksack.

The real beauty of the Gore-Tex Pro fabric is the breathability. It’s incredibly effective – even on milder, wet rides, the build up of sweat is minimal, and on a cold, snowy ride, where sometimes layers of fleece type materials can create clammy areas, this was hardly noticeable.

The fabric is a rip stop look in the interior, which seems to aid the flex and slight stretch of the fabric. There is a good quality and useful drawcord on the waist, and a softer interior neck that is high enough to protect. The main zipper is well shielded, and importantly its not too lightweight, which adds life to the jacket, and won’t clog in muddy conditions.

Out riding in the Revelation, I was always comfortable, its fit and fabric make it a really exceptional jacket, and the only slight judgement I have is the premium price point – if the jacket is crashed, or snagged, then its a heck of an investment lost, but having said that, it performs better or equal to any other jacket I have ridden. There is serious and practical attention to detail, with a performance MTB jacket being created, rather than a compromised road jacket. Its meant for long, wet rides and the looks are more ‘trail’ and ‘XC’ rather than casual, which is fine by me, as riding in bad weather in good clothing makes a ride that bit more bearable.

Its one, if not the best wet weather jacket I’ve tested – and its works well in milder, damper conditions, and lacks the bulk of some waterproofs.
