Shimano Ultegra R8170 Di2 Disc Groupset
£2399.00
Simply stunning. The brand new 12-speed Ultegra Di2 Disc groupset delivers exceptional shifting and braking performance that makes it hard to see the point of Dura-Ace.
Unless you particularly want to spend more, or need to save that little bit of weight, there is no point in looking past Ultegra R8170. The shifting is smoother across the cassette than previously, and the brakes have improved too. It is just brilliant.
The lack of wires has absolutely no negative effect on ride feel, and that should be heartily applauded. Shimano has absolutely smashed it out of the park when it comes to shift quality.
Shimano has fixed the major issue with the R8000 brakes, so now, after you've thoroughly heated up the brakes with a long period of heavy braking, you can let them off and suffer no noise whatsoever.
The hoods have become longer and taller, with a slight tilt inwards through the body. That's a good move for comfort and you'll also find a slight increase in the profile of the shifter bottons.
The chainset features some very chunky cranks and chainrings that deliver exceptionally fast shifting. Minor improvements include a revised bleed port design on the brake callipers.
Overall, this is easily the best sportive/racer groupset for the keen road cyclist.
