    The cycle hit the pedestrian, who was walking in the opposite direction, near Ebor Industrial Estate, York, at about 15:00 GMT on Thursday.

    Paramedics gave emergency medical treatment to the 30-year-old rider but he was pronounced dead at the scene, said North Yorkshire Police.

    The 24 year-old-woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

    This seems to be how they do

    This seems to be how they do it for motorists in other respects though. They didn’t go for “cyclist hit pedestrian” but “cycle hit pedestrian”.  That’s in line with the usual “car hit pedestrian” / “cyclist was hit by a car” – rather than “driver drove into pedestrian”.

    I know the phrasing of this brings out some great pedant-work though.

    I like bikes

    It’s ‘cycle hit pedestrian’ ,
    It’s ‘cycle hit pedestrian’ , yet when a motor vehicle hits a cyclist, it’s always ‘in collision with’ how odd

    I suppose the only positive

    I suppose the only positive is that the young woman is relatively unscathed. A tragic incident that is an indication of how vulnerable we cyclists are. But there’s probably no one on this site who’d suggest otherwise.

    <sarcasm=ON>

    Yup – these pedestrians are dangerous: I think we need to ban walking! 😉 😉

    <sarcasm=OFF>

    Strange how the brain works.

    Strange how the brain works. I saw ‘cyclist’ ‘pedestrian’ ‘killed’ and reworded the actual sentence.

    I wonder if it will ever be known what happened?
