    +1 for handbuilts. I only

+1 for handbuilts. I only wish I’d listened to that advice earlier, all the money I wouldn’t have wasted on factory built wheels with irreplaceable rims and unobtainium spokes. The only downside to handbuilts is that they seem to have little resale value. The plus side is you can pick up barely used pairs on the forums for a song.

I have a pair of the Scribe
I have a pair of the Scribe Race wheels. Also Campag Zondas and Fulcrum 3’s which are around the same price point. The Scribes are lighter and with a wider rim with probably higher quality spokes,Sapim. What was a factor for me was being able to speak to someone from Scribe when i had a query. A negative is probably the lead times, but i had no problem with that.
Out of the 3 wheelsets its the Scribes i have on my best bike. Everyone rates the Zondas but i find them a very harsh ride on British roads.

I have a set of Open Pro USTs

I have a set of Open Pro USTs and Kinlin asymmetric rims on wheels handbuilt by Harry Rowlands, both of which came in under your factory made alternatives.  If it matters, the Kinlin rims are re-badged and sold by the likes of Hunt at a premium price…. Both wheelsets are sub 1500g.

Hey Rob, I’m now onto my

Hey Rob, I’m now onto my second set of Scribes. TBH I was skeptical with the first set because I’d never heard of them but damn, so glad I took the plunge. My first set was a cheaper winter set, the Pace wheels that I bought last year and they were awesome. On the back of that I bought the AW+50s and honestly, they have also been amazing, I actually would say they are a better wheel than my ENVE SES wheels. I think the main difference is the weight, Scribe seems to be so much lighter than a lot of the big brands and they are certainly much cheaper, the other things are the ratchet system, doing a bit of research, it seems it’s really similar to the DT Swiss EXP system. And finally, and perhaps most importantly, the guys are great to chat with, it’s not like you can pick up the phone to Mavic lol.
