Hi

I purchased the 2020 Emonda SL6 Disc road bike on Saturday and now waiting 3 weeks for it to be built before returning and finalising the fit

I’d like to get an iPhone holder for it as I won’t have enough left to get a bike computer too, that will have to wait

The guy mentioned Quadlock as a good option but a friend has read several reviews where they broke so I’m now reluctant to opt for them

Can anyone suggest good options?

I use a Quadlock. I had to use the stick-on option as I don’t have a posh phone, but even so it is very secure. A friend did break his by over tightening the closure of the (plastic) out front clasp – but they do specify 3Nm, so no excuses if you overdo it. If you don’t have a torque wrench then just tighten until it grips the bars, resist the temptation to keep tightening. But other than that it really is bomb proof – can’t imagine how people are breaking them on the Internet.

Same here. I did have one phone bounce out of the case though. The case, glued on mount and outfront Garmin mount were still attached to the bike. Now using an otterbox case with hard polycarbonate back and very tight silicon sides that grip like a marathon plus on an oversized rim.

Had mine for years and the phone has always stayed attached, even after a couple of significant incidents that saw me and the bike somersaulting through the air into a mess on the ground.

i’ve done that for years,

i’ve done that for years, works a treat. i tend to use epoxy to stick them on though, and make sure you prepare the surfaces before you stick them together: sandpaper and clean with an alcohol wipe before you stick

I’ve also not had issues using quad locks at all. I’ve not seen reviews where they broke but have seen some where newer phones shake and it can effect cameras etc in the long run but that would be the same for any phone attachment. 

You could always get one of those top tube bags with the phone specifc see through pocket.

morning, ive used the quad lock for years on an iphone 6 with no issues at all i think they are really good. ive even mounted it in my van where it got knocked about abit. i find it really useful when doing longer rides whilst using komoot, cant say a bad word really. gp lama on you tube has a review from a while ago i think.

One option I am about to try.  Get a 3m glue backed Garmin male fitting from Amazon, and stick it to your choice of armoured and waterproof case.  Then any standard Garmin mount is your oyster.

This is similar to the one I ordered.
