Hi all – I’ve got the last week of June off work and I fancy Majorca for a week of road cycling. Am a regular road cyclist but never been to Majorca.

So, any tips on whereabouts to stay and where to get 50-120km routes would be much appreciated. Am planning to get an AirBnB and spend 5 days over there.

    Most grateful 🙂

    Can recommend the Villa

Can recommend the Villa Concha in Pt. de Pollensa. It’s a hotel for “sporty families”, so there’s lots of stuff for the kids to do, alongside a full 25m training pool, half-decent gym, good bike hire shop or, if you’re taking your own bike, dedicated and secure indoor bike parking. Good value, clean, well-located. Food’s not the best, but there are plenty of options nearby.

Thanks Ian – I might consider

Thanks Ian – I might consider hiring a bike as transporting bike boxe and bags can be a faff in my experience. Do you have any routes from Porta Polensa?

You can also look at Soller,

You can also look at Soller, which is at the bottom of the Puig Major – which leads to  the Sa Collabra, etc.   If you’re definitely going and need a bike for the week I’d book it now as the hire shops are really busy.  Been a few times and usually take my own, but went on a last minute job a few years ago and ended up riding an aluminium Trek with a triple chainset.

Needless to say it was junk and I didn’t do as much cycling as I’d have liked.

As a place to stay, Pollença

As a place to stay, Pollença – a few KM inland of Port de Pollença – is a pretty place to stay. The bike rental tends to be in the Port (as is the beach) but for a sedate old town experience, the inland place is worth considering.

    Alcudia is another option,

Alcudia is another option, and the old town is prettier than Puerto Pollensa.

Formentor and Sa Calobra are essential rides but take plenty of bidons – late June will be hot!

    She did a Shirley Valentine

She did a Shirley Valentine when I was a teenager.  Haven’t seen her since the early nineties, but pretty sure she still lives there.

So embarrassing when she wipes your chin with a napkin in front of your mates…

I think my mother waitresses there…  Never been.

    Is she that bad, then?

    Puerto Pollensa is a good

Puerto Pollensa is a good place to base yourself. Easy bus from the airport (and they will take your bike box). Loads of bike rental places, although there is good variety and prices at Playa de Muro (can recommend Rad Salon https://goo.gl/maps/bc4foRXCQYkJ24kg8) and Max Huerzeler (https://goo.gl/maps/LcJFPSnrSk6JDMMG8) are pretty good.

    In Puerto Pollensa, I’ve used

    1) Bike Experience (https://goo.gl/maps/EKzp3B11E4NzWU66A)

    2) Mallorca Bike Hire (https://g.page/mallorcabikehire?share)

    3) Pinarello Experience(https://goo.gl/maps/wXSPL2TpL7t1UCYB9)

    4) 2Go Cycling (cheaper) (https://goo.gl/maps/jQh3naYYhL9Smgnr8)

    5) Bike Island (https://goo.gl/maps/gh53KjDvC9xgAsyq8)

    6) Clips (very nice Merckx bikes, good value  – https://goo.gl/maps/fo2UbdDofUwmR7eH6)

    7) Pro Cycle hire (https://goo.gl/maps/PRpcbt6K1Fa9U6y57)

    Routes:

    1) Formentor – one of the most beautiful rides ever. https://ridewithgps.com/ambassador_routes/621-puerto-pollenca-cap-formentor-and-back

    2) Sa Calobra – interesting one, as you have to do the Col de Femenia first. I recommend doing this loop in the opposite direction: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29367896

    3) Col de Soller and Puig Major: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/4411472

    4) Bunyola – Orient Loop: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30803974

    5) Santa Maria del Cami loop (easier): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15457809

You can also ride south to Inca and Sineu etc, but you always come back into the wind….flat landscape and lots of windmills. Lots of routes on the Pro Cycle Hire page: https://www.facebook.com/Pro-Cycle-Hire-Mallorca-160045144020252/ – they run regular rides and are a good bunch.

Can also recomment the Hoposa Villaconcha – they have a proper training pool, Clips cycling is on site, they have washing machines and space to lock up your bike securely. I like the apartment, as it meant I could still do my own breakfasts etc.

Lastly – try to book in advance; it wil guarantee availability.

    The consensus is that Porta

The consensus is that Porta Polensa or thereabouts is a good base. The main advantage is that you have a choice of going into the mountains for some serious climbing or to the many lovely village squares.

Are you taking a bike? There is good bike hire over there, book in advance.

Since Brexit, the opportunities have changed – the company I used to go with can no longer employ British cyclists as it used to so I won’t recommend any company as I don’t have up to date knowledge. As to routes, they are generally fairly obvious and I am sure there are plenty of heat maps around these days to set you in the right direction.
