Hello everyone. Just got a carbon 595 look frame and wondering.

1. Can I hacksaw (or other technique) the seat tube to lower the height of the seat. See pictures below.

2. How does one do this? Are special tools required. Do I need to expoxy the cut. Any tips appreciated.

I have now cut the seat tube.

I have now cut the seat tube. Very happy with results. Slight paint-flaking on one side. But cut was accurate and straight. I have posted pictures here…

Horrible touch up paint work on seat unit was previous owner… I will do a better job on it at some point.

Thanks for everyones’ comments. Good advice regarding using a specilaist shop or Look themselves.  I am unfortunately too poor to allow others to repair or modify my second-hand bikes. And after building a wheel from scratch, I feel that I should continue my dive into bicycle mechanics.   

I found this video, and I ordered the tool and carbon blade. I will post result when complete.

I have read some horror stories about people using both the Look tool and the Park Tool offering. Happens, I think, by not using a carbon cutting saw blade… Normal blades are appartently thinner.        

I also found an old forum post where someone even suggested using an abrasive disc chop saw  –  which I believe would work but I don’t have access to one. Will definately try on scrap frame one day… See them sometimes on Ebay and want to play…

Yes please use your local bike shop. I almost messed up a steerer once. They won’t charge that much and it will be done professionally.

How much are you looking to

How much are you looking to lower it? This frameset came with various size collars to adjust the saddle height by raising/lowering the stubby post, but I’m pretty sure you could cut the ISP itself. You’d require an incredibly straight and square cut to stop it looking like a bodge job however, I’d get in touch with a Look dealer and let them do it as the frame originally came with a cutting guide tool.

Find an experienced bike
Find an experienced bike mechanic. If you don’t know how to look up how this is done you shouldn’t attempt it. Mechanic is cheaper than a replacement frame.
