Yup, Covid-19, there had been a rumour that a couple of riders had it and weren’t feeling right, but they were waiting on test results

    never considered him. If I’d

never considered him. If I’d done the second transfer it would have been for Cimolai or Ballerini. Both second string today for their respective teams but top for tomorrow. Getting both of Gaviria and Sagan for me would have been one too many one day picks. Did I mention I pigging hate Gaviria. What the hell was he doing sitting up like that?

This will be a tough one for

This will be a tough one for Demare. Right on the ragged edge of what he can do. There’s two nasty short sharp 10% climbs in the last 25kms even if he survives the big climb. That’s two climbs similar to what he admitted he was on the raggedy edge with a couple of days ago. It’s in the balance.

    Think Saturday could be one

Think Saturday could be one for the break. Bora must be getting knackered chasing down breaks, Sunweb dont seem to be backing Matthews much, FDJ could see it as too tough for Demare,  plus all the GC guys must have their eye on Sundays tough test.

A saved transfer is very satisfying! I got away with putting Viviani in instead of Gaviria to save a transfer and am currently smug…..until I make the wrong call tomorrow

Looking forward to round 2 of

Looking forward to round 2 of Fabbro vs Demare tomorrow on that climb. Steeper than the last time but half as long. Will BOH try and ride the legs off him up that?…has to be worth a try hasn’t it.

i kept him in the end. I saw

i kept him in the end. I saw the weather and didn’t fancy the chances for a lot of sprinters so decided to use that transfer later on and gamble on the weather doing the rest today for a low scoring stage. In the end I don’t think the wind really materialised for the second half of the race so it was a fairly normal run.

Best thing about this game is a transfer is never wasted…you just use it later instead.

I was won over by Italy

I was won over by Italy relatively recently, until then it was basically France, France or France as a holiday destination. I can heartily recommend Florence, Lucca and Pisa for a visit – all well documented – but would now have Bologna top of my list. It is a stunning city and the surrounding area is beautiful.

    I’ve never been lucky enough

I’ve never been lucky enough to go to Italy. So many parts of it are absolutely beautiful though, so it’s right up there on my to do list. I love my history and art as well as cycling…I think Italy fits the bill nicely.

    I can fully confirm that.

I can fully confirm that. Went to Puglia and Bologna last year on separate trips and the contrast was stark. Wasn’t helped by having my car broken into in Puglia (in town of Trani, through which tomorrow’s stage passes!!)

    What the hell was that

What the hell was that Gaviria. I chose a light day today in the hope the wind would do the rest. Only brought Gaviria in…all he need to do was have a decent finish. Pfft. Sitting up with 100mts to go and shaking his head because he can’t win….is he related to Marcel Kittel?
