Front derailleur limit screw will only screw back in halfway

hi I removed the 'H' limit screw on my Ultegra front derailleur as was looking in need of some lube/wd40. When I've tried to reinstall, the screw will only tighten half way then stop. It wont go in any further. The threads on the screw are clean and intact and I have tried push the derailer towards me to realse cable tension but still wont go in any further? Any ideas what the problem is? Many thanks
