Hi all, just recently purchased some Favero Assioma pedals and I’ve found that even with the supplied xpedo cleats the float is very stiff, meaning the shoe doesn’t float unless with a bit of force. I did a 100 mile ride yesterday and have some knee pain which I’m pretty sure is due to the foot not being in the correct position a lot of the time.

Anyone else experienced this and any solutions?

I’ve tried lots of other cleats and they are all a bad fit with these pedals. Even the genuine look cleats don’t fit well and you have to really force your foot down to get them to engage.

Seriously thinking of going back to non power meter pedals so any help very much appreciated (-:

I had the Favero Assioma

I had the Favero Assioma pedals for coming up to 2 years…never really had an issue until recently. My problem is quite the opposite, the shoe moves around a lot on the pedal, especially the left, and is causing some knee pain. The tension adjustment doesn’t make a difference. However, moving from 9 degree to 4.5 degree float has helped somewhat. I have read that how the cleat sits on the shoe makes a big difference, I believe you can get shims to account for any gaps between cleat and shoe. Otherwise, been very happy with these pedals.

I run genuine Look cleats with mine now that the xpedo have worn out, they work perfectly too. 

I do recall their predecessors (BePro) took umbrage to some cheap Look-copies, but that’s by-the-by.

Well worth dropping Favero a line, I’ve found their tech support fantastic on two occasions that I’ve contacted them.

Had my Favero Assiomas for a

Had my Favero Assiomas for a couple of years now and been very happy with them. Never had any cleat/float problems at all either with the supplied cleats or with Look cleats. Tension-wise, I use mine approximately in the middle.

I have the same set of these

I have the same set of these I reviewed over four years ago, never had any problems and they were supplied with the Xpedo Look copy cleats too – I backed the spring tension off a little and have left them that way ever since, have gone through about four sets of the same xpedo cleats in that time. If you suspect it’s a QC issue then I would get in touch with Favero via the website and explain the issue, if they agree then I’d go for a replacement over sending them back. For me it’s been a very reliable and well-used product.

I just checked and the sole
I just checked and the sole of the shoe doesn’t actually come into contact with the pedal body so not sure if this will make any difference.

That’s really weird! I’ve probably had a few sets of cleats on 2 different pairs of shoes and all worked without issue.

Ah, I bet I know! I have shims (varus wedge) fitted under the cleat which has increased the space between the platform and the sole of the shoes. I wonder if that’s helped in this regard? It’s literally 0.5-1mm but might just be enough to make a difference.

Thanks Sparrowlegs appreciate the response.  Yes I’ve tried backing off the tension but the float is still very stiff,  I tried using grease on the pedal platform which did help.  In the absence of other solutions I will probably just do this before every ride.

The issue with Favero cleat compatibility is well documented, some seem to have a nightmare and otehrs get along fine with them which I suspect is down to variable quality control.  There’s an interesting thread here on that:

I have a set of these and never had an issue with whatever cleats I’ve used. I found the more generic ones to be better actually.

Have you backed the spring tension off all the way? That’s basically the only adjustment that can be done on these (and most other) pedals. As soon as I get adjustable pedals I back it off all the way and then work my way to what’s comfortable.
