E-bike power assist profiles.

After 62 years of riding only the unassisted bicycles, in all manner of ways, I’ve sucumbed to the lust for an e-bike. Well …. two  of them (winter/touring bike and good-weather racey bike). They’re the lighter that are drop bar lighter weight bikes with the added e-power from Fazua motors.

I justify these acquisitions with fine rationalisations-after-the-fact, like the good little consumer I am. But the subject I’d like to raise here isn’t these “reasons” for purchase but rather, how to make the best of an e-motor if the bike rider is still concerned with remaining a fit cyclist rather than a motorcyclist slowly expanding due to the continued eating of cake.

The Fazua motor-governance systems allow the owner to set all sorts of assistance profiles within the overall envelope of 250 watt max power from a 250watt-hour battery. Different levels of added motor power can be set, along with profiles determining how much rider power must be input to get what e-motor power assistance levels. The ramp-up speed (how fast the motor will add or not add power as the rider increases or decreases pedalling power) can also be tweaked.

    My question:

Is anyone with such a configurable e-motor system in their e-bike – looking to maximise their own effort levels whilst also gaining some added abilities from the motor – interested in discussing these e-power profiles and their configuration to suit various cycling purposes, ambitions, riding styles, route-types and so forth?
