Iv just had a bike delivered from an ebay seller. Upon close inspection I noticed a small chip in the seat stay (see pic). The bike is carbon. Should I be worried that this chip affects the integrity of the frame or do you guys think its purely cosmetic? Thankyou for your reply. It’s a pinarello razha…..paid 800 for it. It is spotless apart from this which the seller says wasn’t there when he posted it. If I believe him then the cause must have been due to the pedals that were in the box. They werent wrapped in anything…. Just loose in the box. Its lucky nothing else was damaged really.

I’d be pretty confident that is purely cosmetic. A good specialist performance car place will also be able to fix it for you so it’s pretty much unnoticeable for £100-200.

However, if raw carbon is exposed, that isn’t terribly waterproof, so whatever you do, get a little bit of clear nail varnish on it just to seal the area.

That said, if that ding wasn’t pictured or mentioned in the description, I’d suggest you’re within your rights to return it, or at least ask for some money back. What’s the bike and how much did you pay, if I can ask?
