Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes…
I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

‘A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.
“It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment.” ‘

In the early hours of this morning a Mercedes smashed through Ham Gates in Richmond Park:

This is required more often than you might think.

Just noticed the reply from the parks police
“Hi, this occurred in the early hours of this morning when the park gates were closed to vehicles. There is an ongoing police investigation.”
What the hell speed was the driver doing ?
“The speed you need to be going to rip the engine out of a modern car is not one you should be able to achieve in a city or a park. Absolutely unbelievable.”

Stoke-on-Trent pub forced to shut after being hit repeatedly by vanSo, if I read this right, a self driving van reversed into a pub multiple times while being watched by a self driving RAV4. Then they both drove off and the pub has now had to shut for a while

A Volkswagen driver hit a
A Volkswagen driver hit a parked a Suzuki Celerio which was rammed into a garden wall, demolishing it and damaging the gas pipe at 9.30 pm on Friday evening. The VW flipped in the road.
The Suzuki is shown in the photo, was parked on private land about 4 feet from the kerb on a straight 30 mph section of Welshpool Road (you can see the parking spot in this street view image). I can only guess that the driver was either distracted, under the influence or had a medical episode.
People drive well above the speed limit on this road ALL THE TIME. But what makes it worse is that I walk along here almost every day, and had walked along that section of pavement and crossed the road at this very spot only a few minutes earlier! <gulp>

Cheddar – I don’t distinguish
Cheddar – I don’t distinguish here between Tories and Brexit here – this is an example of how there is less money around and fairly minor costs, that in happier times were waived or absorbed are being passed on, a much harder line being taken. There is no reason why we have to accept the idea of everything getting steadily worse. Let’s hope Festive Night comes back in 2024.
More relevant to this thread, it’s just another example of the many costs that arise from cars that others have to meet or curtail their activities. One that will be played out up and down the land – it will of course get blamed on red tape, bureaucracy, etc.
Discussed before, the Royal British Legion seem to have settled an insurance claim where a Marshall was hit by a driver and my guess is the Cheddar event (below) is affected by the fallout.
This case, from 2018, is the one I think has brought all this about:
Appeal to help Army veteran hit by car at Remembrance Sunday parade
A Justgiving appeal to raise £10,000 has been launched to help Ade Stowell who was knocked down by a car in Studley

Royal British Legion guidance
https://counties.britishlegion.org.uk/media/6540234/200821-remembrance-parades-policy-update-final.pdf3. On the day of the Parade, TRBL and its volunteers must not engage in the deployment, management or removal of any TTMO. This includes, for example, placing barriers, directing traffic or driving vehicles that are involved in the TTMO.
There are other candidates for what caused this and of course drivers continue to be drivers around war memorials and remembrance events:

So anyway: Cars steal Cheddar festive night 2023
“The event, which has been running for over 20 years, sees crowds of thousands pack into Cliff Street for the festive extravaganza. The road is closed and shops open late. Stalls set up in the Cliff Street car park for the evening.
The tightening regulations mean the parish council needs to find additional volunteers to steward and marshall the road closures. Marshalls will also have to undergo training.
The costs of the event are also expected to increase. As well as the cost of the training, from next year Cheddar Parish Council will have to cover the costs of the administration of the road closures.”
