Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes…

I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

‘A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

“It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment.” ‘

But of course your map shows a rail line so people will just get the train, right? /period joke

Google maps shows several transport-based companies (including Hacklings Transport, Pulhams Coaches).  It’s almost as if they should be inured to large vehicles passing down their historic narrow streets.  Perhaps they prefer the Cotswold Performance Cars end of things – or even JWORX Automotive – rather than bus-loads of grockles?

They seem to have a rather large car park by the Co-op (with petrol station also).

Maybe a local worthy could donate a field – or two! – as a coach park, just off the main road?

Perhaps as you say “these are not the visitors we are looking for”?

I suspect that in this case the police may be taking more interest…

Although perhaps it’s what the late Duke would have wanted?

Rail replacement bus hits the railway bridge in Albrighton (near Wolverhampton) on the first day the service was put in place. [article]

How did the driver think they’d get a huge bus under the bridge on Station Road with just 3.2m to spare? [street view]

An electric Jaguar car’s brakes failed on the M62, the vehicle was brought to a halt by being sandwiched between 2 police vehicles. [article] Apparently the same thing to Big Brother star Craig Phillips’s I-Pace on New Year’s Eve, says this BBC article.

You don’t get it, do you?

You don’t get it, do you? When I call you “anti-car” (or in this case “anti-coach”), this is the killer argument – the discussion is over, at least for you.

    Public services saddos like

Public services saddos like me might enjoy this story.  Bourton on the Water Parish Council want to ban certain coaches from some roads in the village, having recently lost the only coach park. I say certain coaches because they seem to want to ban coaches they don’t like, but allow ones they do.

This issue comes up with bus lanes where councils basically say it’s a local bus lane for local buses (nothing for you here).  I’m not sure I’ve got to the bottom of the difference between a coach and a bus – they can be physically similar, are over a certain capacity, but a bus has fare-paying passengers works to a route and timetable whereas a coach is more like a large private hire taxi – not sure the purpose of travel counts for anything?

Not sure you can, in the eyes of the law, distinguish this in the way described in the article.  Any RTO experts here able to frame a distinction?

Another approach in Dorset, permits for coaches -https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/travel/public-transport/coaches/purbeck-coach-permit

‘No-go zone’ for tourist coaches a step closer in Cotswold village amid ‘free for all parking chaos’

Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council has voted to explore restrictions banning coaches from the village

The proposed restrictions would not include public service buses such as school, sports and social clubs transport.

Parish councillors stress they are not “anti-coaches” but that it needs to be done in the interests of the health and safety of residents and visitors

…earlier this week a coach hit one of the filling pumps at the petrol station.

“Welcome to Bourton-on-the-Water, but only if you can come in a car and have loads of money. Please don’t come if you are visiting from overseas on a coach tour. Please don’t come if you’re a pensioner on a coach trip visiting for an affordable day out.”

Andy Pulham, owner of Pulhams & Sons Coaches, called for some parish councillors to be removed from being party to any discussions on the issue due to their perceived bias against coaches.

Uninsured driver crashes into tree on Cambridgeshire road

The passenger was injured and taken to hospital

    https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/local-news/uninsured-driver-crashes-tree-cambridgeshire-28763442

But did the tree have insurance? Did it pay road tax? Did it have a licence? No, therefore it wouldn’t have been there. Then the car wouldn’t have hit it Was it wearing hi-viz? Did it have a helmet? Really the tree only has itself to blame. We should stop trees getting in the way of hard-working, law-abiding* cars

I think the phrase is “Otherwise Law-Abiding”

Wouldn’t that suggest that they agree that there was law breaking in this instance?

No insurance? That’s not law breaking, that’s an admin error

Over the speed limit? That’s not law breaking, that’s keeping up with the traffic

Going through a red light? That’s not law breaking…. unless it’s a cyclist
