I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

My money would be on “Jail

My money would be on “Jail for cyclist…”, especially if it was “keen cyclist”.  

Can’t decide headline-wise if it’s the cycling element of triathlon, or the idea of an ‘althlete’: the latter would put “judo enthusiast” as front runner in your case.  

Found guilty and given 34 months jail – a whole lot more than drivers get for deadly road violence.

The long verson is the perpetrator was an alcoholic who was (reportedly) planning on taking part in a charity triathlon to raise funds for the rehab centre he had been going to, although he had relapsed prior to the attack. So the triathlon aspect has no direct relevance, but is loosely related to his alcoholism, which itself was no doubt related to the attack. A pretty tenuous connection given the man is characterised as a “triathlete” in the headline – “alcoholic” would seem to be a more pertinent description but would presumably have generated fewer clicks…
