Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes…

I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

‘A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

“It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment.” ‘

This incident seems to be

This incident seems to be making big news in the Echo – I mean relative to the daily litany of death and injury due to road violence. Am I missing something here?

Drug driver banned after

Drug driver banned after crashing lorry into tree

“He told the court that Wilton admitted to smoking cannabis in the evening to help him sleep at night as he suffered with arthritis and shoulder pain following an injury.

Mr Reynolds said that he felt entirely capable of driving and had merely carried out instructions provided to him.

He said: “He felt perfectly fit that day to drive and was simply following the instructions of his employer.”

The court heard that Wilton was immediately fired following the incident but has gained employed since at a different scaffolding company who Mr Reynolds said was fully aware of situation.”

Car ‘obstructing’ pavement in

Car ‘obstructing’ pavement in Fordingbridge had expired MOT

how bad does it have to get before anything is done?

Why do we have to cite vulnerable groups to appeal to any ounce of compassion or shame drivers like this might have?

I wonder what the fine was for?

From the linked article:
From the linked article:

One bridge was hit by vehicles 25 times last year, official figures show. The 15ft-high bridge spanning Watling Street in Hinckley, Leicestershire, carries passenger and freight trains between Leicester and Birmingham. Another bridge on Bromford Road, next to Sandwell & Dudley railway station in the West Midlands, was hit 24 times.

Leaving aside what it tells about the competence supposedly ensured by a regime of training and testing professional drivers …. I’d have to wonder why the bridge owners didn’t just resign themselves after the 20th bridge strike and construct sacrificial gantries at either end, with trembler alarms, and a large bucket of poo to drop onto the cab of any lorry driver running into it. It’s got to be cheaper than fixing the bridge again every time.

Fortunately no one injured,
Fortunately no one injured, but theres actually a youtube live ferry cam linked from the Daily Echo you could watch (theyll hit YouTube 12hr limit on streams and lose it probably) somehow the truck turned and the rear of the container just side swipes the building, which collapses.

But why are there so many trucks going to the Isle of Wight ? it hadnt struck me as the kind of place that can cope with vehicles that size

I think it should be standard

I think it should be standard procedure for drivers to face a re-test and eye test if they hit anything.

The Times – Lorry drivers

The Times – Lorry drivers could get road ban for crashing into railway bridges

1,624 bridges were hit by vehicles in the year to the end of March 2021. That’s an average of more than 4 per day, though 9% down on the 1,787 over the previous 12 months (surely due to the pandemic).

“Network Rail said that bridge strikes can cost about £23 million a year in structural repairs as well as compensation to passengers for cancelled or delayed services.”

When are these bridges going

When are these entitled bridges going to learn to share the road? If there’s a tall lorry coming along, then they need to pull to one side to let it pass. It’s just common sense innit?
