I was looking at stand alone bike insurance and for tranporting I found some companies require the bike to be locked to the roof rack. Only the video showed it locked from the wheel…

I can’t see anyway you can lock a bike to the roof rack. The best I have done in the past is a dlock and cable to the other bike and a dlock on the other bike.

    Any ideas or comments ?

    Cable lock looped around
Cable lock looped around frame down tube and bike carrier between roof rack fixing points works.. sometimes a bit of padding to stop any rattling.
If not possible try something like this? https://www.goodeleisure.com/bike-lock-for-roof-or-boot-mounted-cycle-carrier-9848-p.asp

Can’t use the rails they are

Can’t use the rails they are flush.

Just seems as though insurers have no idea about bikes.

I’ve run a cable under the roof bars in the past – not great and a determined thief would easily get the bars off. If the car has the right type of roof rails, there might be a possibility of locking to them.
