Bike box suggestions needed.

    I’m looking to fly with my machine and am looking for a hard case to pack it in, but I may have a problem.

    Most boxes that I know of require the seat post to be removed and packed separately, what’s the problem there I hear you say – my bikes got an ISP so no seat post to remove (Scott Addict R4 2008).

    Does anyone know of a bike box that would fit an ISP bike in?

    Depending on your frame size you should take a look at the B&W bike box – great bit of kit. A few people with ISP have used these excellent transport cases, some have just had to remove the saddle, which is simple enough.

    The internal measurements are:

    1080mm x 780/800mm x 250mm

    They are available from many cycling shops, just go to the “Where to Buy” tab on the site.

    B&W also make a larger case with an internal mounting anti-shock frame, this is the bike case:

    Both of these come with padded wheel bags, internal straps and additional protective features.

    I wouldn’t trust a cardboard box to protect your bike, we’ve all heard some horror stories about the way all luggage is thrown about. Why take the risk?!

    The the anti-crush pole inspires a massive amount of confidence for me. Just ensure everything is padded, and you’re golden. Cardboard boxes can still be pierced – no chance of that with a BBA.

    I don’t know your frame size, but they give the dimensions on their page.
    If it fits your bike, you should give it a try. We have used clamshell, TriAll3 wheeled cases, and LBS boxes, and the AirCaddy was the best – even better than the hardshell cases. Trusted it with $10K worth of carbon fiber on an international flights this summer and it worked great. Folded up nicely too which took care of a big hassle.

    I have transported my Giant
    I have transported my Giant Advanced SL with ISP – (size ML) both in a BikeBoxAlan hard case and in a cardboard box.
    I took out the forks and chainset for it to fit into the cardboard box. I also put my wheels in their wheelbags for more protection.
    Strangely enough, I was had more confidence in the cardboard box. Make sure you bring tape with you to seal the box for the return journey…

    I’d usually say a cardboard box from your LBS, but not sure if this frame would fit in one. Maybe a right big one. And maybe if you took your forks out. Just seems a bit of a waste of cash to me to buy a bike box when they’re shipped in cardboard, so that must be OK?! Plenty of pipe lagging/bubble wrap/old towels/bike kit wrapped around it, duct tape it up and Robert’s your mother’s brother. If it it fits, that is.

    Maybe other people can be more useful than me…
