What’s the best bike box / case out there (for around £300)?

    I’m heading overseas with my bike soon and want to get a hard bike case to take on the plane.

    What have you found to be the best one? (For around £300)

    Take a look at the
    Take a look at the Velovault.

    Totally British made and it is not a 5 year old design, so it fits 29er wheels too, if you’re ever likely to travel with a MTB.

    It’s £450 new but we have a few ex hire boxes we can sell currently.

    +1 for the EVOC, very well
    +1 for the EVOC, very well designed and manufactured soft case that has the added bonus is easy to store when not in use. Was told if I was buying a case there would be no more room for any more bikes, so bought a soft roll up case and there is still plenty of space for more bikes…

    Those B&W cases aren’t bad,
    Those B&W cases aren’t bad, (we had 2 in our household at one point), but they’re not a patch on the BikeBox Alan which has replaced one of them. The B&W’s locks are plasticky and can be awkward to align, when the box is upright the bottom section between the wheels sags and drags on the floor when wheeling the case around the airport, that leads to the built-in Velcro strap wearing away, the internal straps to secure the bike are pretty poor, and the whole thing feels a bit rickety. On the plus side they’re fairly light and compact, and most importantly feature an anti-crush pole to brace the two flat sides against each other. Plus you’ll find one second hand on eBay for well under budget.

    But in the event of nuclear war I’ll be hiding in my BikeBox Alan!

    Recommend the B&W International bike box. They are really well made with loads of padding inside to protect your bike and great value.

    I originally thought of a hard case but having considered the likely additional charges from the airline given the weight plus bike and the fact that many sights indicated that because the case was “hard engineered” baggage handlers were likely to see it as safer to stow luggage on top of in comparison to a “soft” case I went for an EVOC

    with some pipe lagging to provide back up on the frame (not required but made me feel happier)- I was as happy travelling as I’m sure I would have been with a hard case PLUS storage at home and away is much easier

    It’s cost me 100 quid for 3 weeks hire o a bike box Allan for July 😕
