    i’ve been gluten free for the past three months, well almost. after my 7 year old was diagnosed with coeliac disease i decided to go gluten free because i didn’t want him to have to face it on his own. when i say almost gluten free, he has allowed me to have beer because, and i quote ” i can’t have that anyway and i wouldn’t expect you to give that up” (phew ) the kid knows me 🙂 . anyway, i digress…was wondering if anyone on here is gluten free. i read somewhere that wiggo went GF for the tour last year. i must admit i feel a bit better on the climbs, probably due to the weight i’ve lost…would lose more if i gave up the beer though

    The canteen at my work is poor too, the guy who is in charge of the kitchen is clueless… I asked him if the chicken rice soup was gluten free…. He said “no… It has rice in it” … I mean what f@ckin chance have you got? 😀

    I must admit the bread thing
    I must admit the bread thing is hard. I used to eat loads of bread… French bread, soda bread, tiger loaf… I could just eat and eat it. But as you say the GF bread isn’t nice, it’s ok toasted, but as a sandwich it’s edible…it’s eating for effect rather than pleasure. I ate far too much bread anyway so I look on it as a good thing. I don’t know if I’ll go GF forever but at the moment it seems to be helping my son, which is the main thing.

    I have been GF for a about 8
    I have been GF for a about 8 years and my several members of my family are coeliacs.

    I am struggling with my food at the moment due to my job being based on a military base (I only have access to a kettle, microwave and set meals in a canteen)

    When I am back at home though, I tend to eat potatoes, rice and GF pasta but don’t find it all that filling (packets often say 3oz of pasta but I use 4.5oz)
    I have started eating more polenta and often mix in some herbs, sundried tomatoes and olives to spice it up and make it more interesting. Supermarkets often sell pre-made packets but the dried stuff tastes better.

    I have definitely put on weight due to my current predicament of oily fatty foods in canteens, but with my job relocating back home next month I will hopefully get on my bike more and eat more healthily.

    as for the beer, I turned GF before I turned 18, but I used to like Kronenbourg and Adnams, but now I drink cider (mainly aspalls as it is v.good and local)
    My brother has now turned GF (aged 26) and is struggling with the lack of beer. he does’t like cider but it could be because he didn’t ‘grow up’ drinking it

    I’ve had two GF girlfriends –
    I’ve had two GF girlfriends – and whilst it’s pretty easy to cook around that (GF pasta is pretty ok, ground almonds or polenta makes for a tasty alternative to flour in cake), they’ve both said that lunchtimes are hard.
    GF bread is awful, and so much of shop-bought lunch stuff is based around bread.

    you can get GF beers too though, not tried one yet but how bad can it be right 😀
    i have two younger sons too and you’re right it’s not fair to ask them to give up gluten too which can be a pain in the arse at meal times but hey.

    thank’s…we actually got a juvela sample pack last week, probably the best GF bread i’ve tasted and my son likes it. my mum makes me these gluten free cereal bars with nuts and dried fruit etc, they are seriously delicious and perfect for long rides. i’ll post the recipe if anyone is interested.

    Some people may be interesting in looking up Durianrider on YouTube, he is on a high carb – low fat raw vegan diet and has been for 12 years or so now. Very interesting bloke, does a lot of cycling at a very high standard, 36/7 years old and under 8% body fat. His diet definitely isn’t for everyone (myself included), but it’s interesting none the less.

    Warning, he is a health activist, so be prepared to turn the volume down! (he shouts, a lot).

    I went gluten free for coeliac disease about 4 weeks ago and already noticed a difference. I now eat more buckwheat, millet and less carbs overall. My digestive system is much better and as a triathlete my performance has improved. Try joining up to coeliac.org; they’re great as a support group. I also joined up with juvela who provide a free sample pack of foods. I now make most of my own food too.

    Yes, I’m on a low carb diet for three months now, never felt better physically. Lost a lot of excess fat, gained muscle, I can finally see muscles on my legs. Though my main objective is/was to shed weight, I refuel twice a week with potatoes and rice.     I also eat much more meat and vegetables than I ever did. Feels good to have a cheat day every now and then and just stuff yourself with all the bad shit 😀
