Shimano 105 pedals

Just a quick question about pedals and cleats. The Shimano 105 pedals on CRC say that they have a 3degree float. Does that mean if you get the red cleats with 0 float, you still actually have a 3degree float? And if you get the yellow cleats with 6degree, that will then total 9degrees? Thanks for any help in clearing this up
