I’m not in & having looked at
I’m not in & having looked at the magazine it looks like a charity ride to me masquerading as something serious. If you’ve ever ridden the London to Brighton ( I have twice ) you’ll know that you’re better off out of it !

Dress as a Children’s Cartoon Character and you’ll have a great time…. take it seriously & I suspect you may be frustrated by the hanging around at the start, people walking up every hill etc….

I was one of the lucky few.
I was one of the lucky few. Amazed as previous attempts to get in the marathon ballot all failed. For the cynics I didnt tick the box. I agree with most of the comments if they want keen cyclists to take part then let the first 20,000 in. Job done. No hanging around for months to wait for a magazine. sorry for all those who missed out I know I would have been gutted.

    Bashthebox – bet you didn’t
Bashthebox – bet you didn’t tick the donate box did you? Perhaps you’d like to be charitable and donate your entry to me? There’s always one smug t**t 👿

    I’m in, which I’m happy
I’m in, which I’m happy about.

The people complaining about their money being donated to charity – er, you do understand the concept of charity, right? It wasn’t compulsory to tick that box. Just shrug in mild annoyance and be grateful your money’s gone to good causes rather than being wasted.
I shall ride like the wind for all those of you who haven’t made the draw.

    Got my conciliatory magazine
Got my conciliatory magazine and jersey this evening. Great. Souvenirs of something I’m not going to ride.

So, is there anyone that has got a place that paid in advance and ticked the “donate my entry fee if I don’t get a place” box?

If yes, had you ridden one of the Sportives on their list that auto-qualify?

    Looks like some questions
Looks like some questions need to be asked, just spoke to a friend of ours who donated her entry to charity, she didn’t get in either. Be interesting to find out what proportion of the places on offer have gone to charity – are these deducted from the 20k anyway? Have we all been bidding on 15k places?

I am sure it will be a
I am sure it will be a splendid event, but I do think it was rather cynical way the organisers encouraged people to donate their entry fee when they know there is not the capacity. They allowed the event to be oversubscribed by 30,000, people who would be disappointed (how much money is coming from them?) I am sure they they will declare it a massive success for charity, which might hopefully make it an annual event and give many others a chance to ride in the future.

However, my understanding of the London Marathon is it is an all charity event, so if you can’t raise the funds you will have to stump the rest up yourself.

To be honest as it is only 12
To be honest as it is only 12 miles up the road to the starting place i might just GPX the route and ride it anyway 😀

As for the broom wagon i think they will need a snow plough strapped to the front 😉

Not had anything by post yet
Not had anything by post yet either, but the payment website says ‘cancelled’. Although I paid back when I registered. And like Hairybiker clicked the check-box to agree for my entry fee to be donated to charity if I didn’t get in. I felt pretty magnanimous at the time, but the inner cycnic is now thinking that if nobody who paid up-front and checked that box was given a place, they’d make more money overall by giving those spaces to people who hadn’t paid yet.

Now that would be a scandal! Not that I’m suggesting they’ve done that. But just saying…

    I’m in.
    Happy about riding

    I’m in.
Happy about riding closed roads, slightly nervous about the 20k of “experienced cyclists” all giving it full hammer.

    Haven’t got a magazine yet,
Haven’t got a magazine yet, but from the website, looks like I am out.

At the end of the day, it was always a ballot though, so I can’t say I agree with other comments about whether entering early should give precedence.

I agree the charity route feels a little too much like trying to get your friends/family to subsidise doing a cool event, so for that reason I won’t be taking a charity place.

I guess you just have to think of it like the London Marathon, where it regularly takes multiple attempts to enter before you get a place.

Both my wife and I entered
Both my wife and I entered and we even donated our entry fees to gain an additional chance. Both of us got the magazines this morning – what’s the chances of that? Thieving bas****s 🙁
Mind you, we’ve both entered for the London Marathon on at least 4 occasions and not got in either – is someone trying to tell us something 😕
