Ksyrium Elite Stiffness

    I know these are fairly popular wheels so I’m hoping someone out there will be able to help me out with this.

    I’ve had a set of shimano RS80s up till now, which were great apart from the fact that when I’m out the saddle climbing or sprinting the back wheel flexes and ends up rubbing against my brake pads. The result of this is that the back rim has worn out far faster than I’d like :”(

    I’m looking at replacing them with a set of Ksyrium Elites and before I shell out I’d like to know if I’m gonna have similar problems with them or not? I’m about 80kg. I’ve not heard things about them flexing but any owners out there able to give their experience?

    Sounds like good news! Cheers guys. I’d heard about it being a problem with the RS80s but never with the ksyriums, so I was hopeful but I wanted some users opinions to make sure! Looks like I might be treating myself to an early christmas present…

    hi, I use Ksyrium Elites on my daily commute and winter training bike and have used them for a number of years as they are indeed ‘bombproof’. I’m about 84kg and have never noticed any wheel flex worth worrying about. They’re light enough and spin well. go for it…

    Hi, I’ve run K Elites for quite some time now and I can honestly say that I have never had flex/wheel-brake contact.
    If you set the rear wheel with the tiniest of bearing ‘play’ they stay there and are easy rolling on the bearings. If they are set properly the outer edge of the rim can be ‘felt’ to move sideways, this is the slightest of movements and not a distictive clunk or visual flop of the wheel one way or the other.
    Once set, as mentioned, I have never experienced any rub and I have my brakes set quite close. My old faithful training Aksiums have ‘squeaked’ through contact on the hils though.
    I suppose there could be differences in riding styles that could cause wheel rub though – a sudden uphil hit with a hard left and right pulling of the bike against the pedal stroke may flex even the stiffest wheelset, but I for one wouldn’t be able to sustain hard hits like that for long.
    The KE wheels (so far of any age) are stiff in my experience.
