    Austin’s recently nicked Ltd Ed Venge WC (hope that you are re-united soon) got me thinking which coffee/cake stop locks that forumistas use and recommend.

    Ahh, that’s the Badger. They are pretty good for what they are, fine for getting a coffee or grabbing some food but couldn’t leave the bike out of site for long. I think if they didn’t care about the alarm you could cut the cable quite easily (probably not much thicker than a brake cable) but stops some opportunistic scrote walking off with your bike 50 miles from home :”(

    Cant remember the make off
    Cant remember the make off the top off my head, but I use a little retractable combo cable lock, which if is fiddled with (either the unit of if you try and cut the cable) it kicks out an 100Db alarm. Is a bit of a nightmare if its windy, but a good deterent

    Re. the Squire, have today bought a very similar 60cm retractable combination lock from ebay for my kids’ bikes/scooters while at school or wherever, £9. The seller also has a 100cm version for £11.

    An armoured cable lock would deter casual thieves but dedicated tealeaves will carry croppers that will slice straight through it. I use a cheap combination lock for nipping to the shops but have a Kryptonite Series 2 for leaving my bike in town for any length of time.

    For me, A “cake stop” “coffee stop” just needs to be a small deterrent rather than a hugely expensive unbreakable lock.

    So something like a Knog Milkman would be fine, as you are normally within site of your bike and just need something small and lightweight to lock it.

    not everyone will have room for one but it’s a great lock if you’ve got a big saddlebag. it’ll fit in a jersey pocket too if your jersey isn’t too stratchy 🙂
