BMC Stuck seatpost

Have a BMC frame, aluminium front, carbon rear with one of the fancy teardrop shaped seatposts that is like a quill stem tightening at the bottom. Snapped the £$*&^ seatbolt fastener and the mechanism has dropped down. Now I thought this would release it? So if it has, it's still stuck. Any tips?
