This is amazing. How about a feature on some of the tech of these bikes?

speaking from experience ( my big bro has only got 1 arm)

one of the dumbest questions i ever asked him was “whats it like riding with 1 arm? it must be harder than with 2”

he pointed out that never having had 2 arms he couldn’t say – he then promptly thrashed me in a fight!

point being, most folks with disabilities don’t know any different so what seems amazing to us is just ‘normal’ to them

I must admit though, watching a one armed dude rock-climb is still a highlight – I have NO IDEA how he does it!!!

Dunno, I suppose his brain has adjusted to compensate for that over the years. Amazing stuff really.

    One thing I was wondering
One thing I was wondering about Mendez at the Paralympics – and I accept this may be a really daft question – but if his double amputation were on the right hand side of his body, would that make it more difficult for him to ride round the velodrome? Just curious, struck me that since his remaining arm and leg are on the outside it might make it easier for him to deal with the banking? Inspirational though.

Oh yeah and don’t forget Todd
Oh yeah and don’t forget Todd Key

When Todd Key was 7, he lost the use of his right hand after a bad fall caused a fracture and then an infection, leaving it misshapen.

Then, at the age of 17, tragedy struck again when he was forced to have his right leg amputated because of muscle cancer in his knee

Juan Jose Mendez, Double amputee track star who doesn’t use prosthetics to ride

Brett Wolfe, One legged mountain biker. http://www.seattlepi.com/lifestyle/article/With-one-leg-and-an-iron-will-Brett-Wolfe-sets-1060803.php

There are loads of people out there who would put me to shame on a bike and have multiple losses of limbs and don’t use prosthetics. AMAZING
