    Why is this (and the rest of the pointless, bitchy, defamatory column) allowed to masquerade as journalism?

    For those of you with a net nanny that does not allow you to visit shameful sites like the Daily Mail, here are some of the choices quotes:

    On Zara Phillips:
    “…Zara, who nevertheless still contrives to sound like a bored Essex under-manicurist despite being a) royal and b) taking part in the poshest Olympic sport”

    On Sharron Davies:

    On Lizzie Armistead and Marianne Vos:

Never mind, after the 80-mile race Lizzie emerged without a speck of mud on her flawless complexion, manicure perfect, looking ready for her close-up”

    I got overtaken the other
    I got overtaken the other day…. I could and should (will) say by a better fitter faster cyclist OR I could accuse the sod of being on drugs wheelsucking or any number of excuses I think this person at the daily fail (I won’t use the word journalist) falls into the second category and she takes bitching/whinging to new depths.

    The Daily Mail is a professional troll. That’s how the site functions. Enrage people to the point that they need to tell all their friends and tweet links. Hey-ho, page views. Page views = advertising revenue.

    There’s no point being enraged, it’s a business model and a successful one at that. But fair enough if you don’t want it in your life. Just block it.

    Really sorry, but the quotes were so ridiculous that I did indeed have to ‘go there’ just to check she really did call Marianne Vos a bitch. Unbelieveble. They rode a strong race, and the faster sprinter won.

    On the fact that Lizzie Armitstead got herself cleaned up in time for interview, she also managed the following gem:

    “It was a kind of wet weather miracle. Most women look more bedraggled negotiating a doorstep puddle. Best of all, was that Lizzie kept going by snacking on treats kept in a pouch on her back.”

    [speechless]

    Seriously, we’ve been thinking that a raised profile for the sport is a good thing, but is it really? If such a commonsense concept as a quick shower and makeup is beyond the grasp of the owner of this inane verbal diarrhoea, is there really any hope, at all, of the public at large being enlightened regarding such a complex sport or, on a more everyday basis, the intricacies of negotiating motorised traffic on two wheels?
