I’m looking to upgrade my 2004 Trek 1200 and have so far come across:

2012 Trek 2.1 – discounted to £900 from my LBS
    2011 Cannondale CAAD 8 105 – £815
    2012 Focus Variado 2.0 – £694

I’d probably cope with Tiagra (thats what’s on my current bike) but most of the Tiagra spec bikes don’t seem much cheaper.

Main reasons for upgrade are: existing bike is a 58cm and is a bit too long for me (TT is 575mm and I have to slide the saddle all the way forward) and everything on it is getting a bit shabby. (it was bought SH off Ebay in 2008)

Rose looks good, Canyon do a Roadlite for £799 http://www.canyon.com/_uk/roadbikes/bike.html?b=2502 ,
Ribbles go from £840 upwards with 105

Planet-X start at £999 (also seem to have very different geometry – long TT short seat tube?)

I’ve been trawling ebay for a few weeks now with no success – guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and buy a new one!

Anyhoo, unless it’s on ride-2-work, I’d suggest going second hand. You’ll get a carbon frame and Ultegra or better for that money.

Great bike and has full 105 unlike the Trek and Cannondale.

It’s also fully customisable. Every component including it’s size/width/length can be chosen so the bike fits you perfectly.
